My People was in the previous hottest 100.

I was rather worried when we got to three and Electric Feel hadn't been played...thank f#ck it wasn't number one, then again, Sex On Fire is of dubious merit too.

All the same, its pop music. The KOL album came out in the last quarter or so of the year, was wildly popular...no great surprise it ended up so widely patronised. Once I saw a pub style cover band do sex on fire on NYE, I pretty much knew it was probably going to be the one.

Yet another unbelievably predictable hottest 100, they pretty much could have used the same playlist they've used every day for the last couple of months.

so pissed. most of the songs in the top 10 were all on commerical stations.
People sound outraged to the point that they didn't expect this to happen. There's only so much "alternative" music can do in basically a popularity contest. Predictable, but still good none the less.

1-100 JJJ list & regional Aus music, should be so lucky...

Yeah I've complained about it in previous years but to be honest if you've ever lived in a regional cesspool like central qld where brtiney's latest song or "warren z dogs" hip hop crap is cool you'd be surely glad to find any of the top 10 JJJ's bands CD's at the only record store ie. inSanity at the local shopping centre if you were lucky!

Couple of years ago I asked some Rockhampton locals where to find some descent new music and their reply was the above I had chills down my spine......2yrs on and nothing has changed.......thank god for the JJJ's or they'd still think limp biscuit and Korn were the best........

this annoys the fuck out of me, my mates were saying it all day....

if there is a good catchy song, from a band that STARTS on tripple J (in aus), and the song is realesed on JJJ long before it is on the commercial stations, who gives a fuck if it gets played on mainstream radio, of course it is going to get played on commercial stations, if it is good enough to be in the top 10 of hottest 100.. PEOPLE LIKE IT!!!!

On a quality level I'm not, the sooner that copy and paste crap disappears off the radar the better. However...it was out in the last quarter or so of the year; check. Heavily publicised and hyped; check. Feature Album; check. So on that level it IS surprising.

Even Z-trip was saying recently he thought the whole cult around mash-ups was a bit stupid.

BTW my earlier post wasn't complaining about pop, commercialism etc. JJJ is alternative pop, thats a given, I'm not snobbing it. But the chart was top heavy with the necrotic pus of this years offerings.

I think Rod may have been referring to their last album 'Third', which came out in 2008.
And I must say I agree, I thought The Rip would have been there.

I voted for:

Does it offend you yeah - Dawn of the Dead
MGMT - Electric Feel
Amity Affliction - Fruity Lexia

for me Electric Feel is the only MGMT song that will stand the test of time. Even though it's been grossly overplayed I still consider it a brilliant song, partially due to association with the credits from the Odyssey Electronical bmx video. I can't stand the other MGMT songs any more.

I'm not happy Sex on Fire won. Though I think it was deserving of a spot, I think it's overhyped, and there was more hype around Electric Feel, and the voting results were just due to the timing of voting.

All good anyway

Beefcake...BEEFCAKE!!!
I had a bit of a listen. No.1 was a given really.

JJJ has been going downhill for a while, but now they have started playing anything - even Rhiannon (I shit you not) and getting their presenters to sound like commercial ones (even the breakfast show is shit, Lindsay you sellout) with copious amounts of idiotic talkback - a swtich to 4ZZZ (local community radio with proper shows and proper music) has been a breath of fresh air.

Because of this, you can't expect anything much of it, so coming down on them for the popularity of it all is a bit silly - that's exactly what they are going for - mass commercial market.

The JJJ of old died a slow painful death. Oh well, new horizons.

Fair call, although commercial radio stations dont play good music! Com Radio is just another fashion outlet. I dont shop at Cotton On and I dont listen to Com Radio.

You guys whining do realise that Triple J is a pop station, right? It might be an 'alternative' derivative of pop but it's still pop. At least Lady Gaga didn't win or something.

The presenters are definitely getting much worse, but no worse than any other major, I just listen to newsradio now.
