Keep us updated on how the layback thomson works out for you. I'm also running a layback thomson and considering switching it for a straight post.
I am now looking for a straight 400 thompson to replace the layback after the weekends racing. I find I need the saddle pretty far forward on the layback post to be in the correct position, I would prefer to have a straight post, and the saddle slightly back if needed. Will post up my post in for sale/swap.

New 29 Anthems

2 new models 29 Anthem 1 and 2.

The A1 looks to be a chrome (again) albeit with black stripes and black pivot hardware etc (I always thought blue was a bit too much anyway) but it runs a Rockshox SID and monarch out back.
Visually the Fox fork looks to have more offset (quicker handling?) but the RS could have more offset at the axle?

The A2 is white with black stripes (looks better IMHO) with a Fox RL up front and RP2 out back.

From what I've been told not too much longer before they hit stores.

Does the SID come with a QR15? It'll be interesting to hear how the Monarch performs out back.. I wonder what bar they'll provide them with too :) I'm keen to see them in action!

I'm also assuming that there's no carbon version? I suspect that would have garnered significantly more discussion/hype!

Now for the trance 29er..

I'm glad I got my 2011 X1 model this year. The new 2012 color scheme is not that good looking. It's also interesting the lower end model comes with Fox rather than Rockshox. It's usually the other way around.

Either way I'm glad they went with Rockshox. I think they are way ahead of Fox now.

The price for the Anthem X0 is $3199 im told. The photo i saw looked more of a gun metal colour, that was taken at the Giant Launch in Melbourne Yday. Good to see its got XT 2 x 10 chainset. Im hopefully getting one next week!

Very interesting it's gone 2x10. I can't seem to get an answer out of Giant as far as when they will be available or full specs? Where are you getting yours from?

Getting very close to jumping ship to the big 'S'

Specs are as listed in the above picture from AMB mag. I spoke to my mate who is a dealer who attended the launch. I wont be able to source one in my size for about a month.

x0 is $3199 x1 is $2699. If you want to see more you can see the almost full range at TomWallaceCycles.com.au

hey definately look better than last year.
Picture of the 0 model looks like it might not be the exact AUS model. Writing on cranks looks like XO rather than XT?

I would have preferred full XT components and Fox suspension on the 0 model but I'm not really familiar with Rockshox suspension and Avid brakes. What do others think of them? Are they good?

...and how much more you have to pay for it. Now that's ridiculous.
By the way, not that much better IMHO. Horses for courses mate.
Both your points are valid, the s-works epic 29er is very expensive (too expensive?) and the AnthemX is a very solid trail/marathon bike.

The reality though is that as an XC race bike the Epic is lightyears ahead. First dual 29er to win an a world cup XC course, etc.

From an MBA review of the S-Works 29er: Lets cut to the chase. This is the best bike we've ever ridden.

To repeat: The AnthemX is much better value, and a great bike overall. Can't compare the 2 on the trail though...

I'd be weighing up an Anthem X29er versus an Epic 29er Comp or Elite model. I don't think comparing an Epic S-works 29er (absolute top model in the Specialised range, carbon, $10k) versus an Anthem X29er (alloy, $3k) is a valid comparison.
