For the lack of grip that the ardent and ardent race offer, they are quite heavy.

I dont run them but I see a lot XC race bikes with an Ardent Race front and Ikon rear, 720g in a 2.2.

Maxxis are the goto for the big tyres... XC is Conti, Vittoria or Schwalbe, I would put any of their trail/XC offerings on any bike.

Nobody compares the weight of 26" tyres anymore

A lot of them are up there now. Most front tyres are pushing 700g.

IIRC The Vittoria Barzo 2.35 TNT on my XC Race bike is ~750g, the Mezcal rear in 2.25 TNT was also about 700g.

Not many 500g tyres now with any puncture protection... the Furious Freds I use on my gravel bike, with no grip are around there.

In my experience they’re great on the XC bike, have used them on numerous over the years. Not advocating putting them on your 160mm enduro sled and going to Buller.
