You can safely add 'like' to that list.. but keeping it on topic..
For the sake of keeping within the category parameters let's keep using the term 'enduro'. One aggression point up from All Mountain and 1.5 down from Freeride (is that a thing any more?)
If you wanna buy a complete build for under 5k I would suggest there will be more spending soon after, possibly upgrading brakes, wheel sets, even fork or shock.. at that price point you'd be almost assured of compromising somewhere. If you want an enduro bike for enduro riding then you really don't want to be compromising (within reason of course).
So, if your real budget then is more like 6k, start looking at that price point and see what you can find that requires zero upgrades - be honest. Canyon and YT offer good value, Giant obviously (ducking rotten fruit).. fwiw, I built a Carbon Patrol with no compromising for 7k(ish). So if you're willing to scour the sales and build custom you can save a bit.
Sticking strictly to 5k for strictly an enduro rig, might well be worth looking pre loved. You'd pick up a lot of bike for 5k.
Wow you must have got some good deals on parts, I'm building and alu patrol at the moment and it going to cost not much less than that I reckon... nothing exotic either XT, hopes with flows etc I couldn't stretch to carbon frame.

Yeah I stockpiled parts from 6 months out, picked up a few big ones like 50% off lyrics, 30% off wheel set, blah blah.. honestly no more than $7200 done and dusted.

For an "off the shelf" option, Canyon has $700 - $900 off the Strives at the moment.... Can get a couple of models at that $5K mark.

Again, you are proving my point on why I want to buy an AM/trail bike for the weekend rides, and not a DH specific bike.
Yes...I am. DH rides are a huge pain in the arse to organise. I think this is the number 1 factor in why people give it up, followed by sand.

Nah, if anything the DHers are the pussies, they only have to ride one run. :behindsofa:
Nah just lazy unfit mofos with big mouths.

Can someone please give me a hug? Even if it's just a little one...
I wish there was a like button. Custom is the way to go. It may seem like more up front, but over that first year of heavy riding it will pay for itself quickly. Sometimes it is even cheaper than off the shelf.

Sam Hill is such a has been and a massive pussie. Oh no that's right - he's a multiple World Cup and world champs winner who's still racing internationally at the pointy end and loving life.
fully sick Enduro was introduced for washed up DHers
It seems like enduro's for those who can't competitively race DH anymore. Sam may be a multi world champ but he hasn't had great DH seasons for some time.

Another vote for the Reign 1

5.3K and you get a lot of bang. Nothing on it that needs replacing right away, maybe tyres or personal preference items like saddle or grips.

DH vs enduro... so last season. Whatever you wanna call it, it's a great way to ride bikes aggressively without all the time wasting bullshit that chews up your time with dh shuttles. People have their reasons, that don't include being pussies. Sam Hill is such a has been and a massive pussie. Douche.
Great post and advice. Thanks

I weighed up the amount of time I might actually race enduro vs just having some fun riding trails of all sorts and went for a trance. Hard to beat the value especially grabbing a runout model.

If something breaks I will replace it with a top quality part and move on.

its unfortunate that sam has lost his pace but im glad his getting the results his after in Enduro and can keep his sponsors happy and still earn a living from riding.
I think Enduro has been pretty damaging to the DH scene here in OZ more than OS. Doesn't help when trail and shuttle company's drop DH from there promotion and replace with Enduro.

GT Sanction. It is a weapon.
Goodluck getting one. Sold out before stock hit australia this year. And only one more drop for the season. only medium and large to boot.

We sold a s@#$ tonne last year, this year would of been the same if they actually got big numbers.

WTF did they do this and not bring in any high end GT's either?

Have you ever ridden an EWS track on a 160mm bike? Have you ever climbed several thousand meters in a day and then smashed out fast times on runs that are every bit as tech as World Cup DH tracks (just without the big jumps, which, to pro riders, are the easiest features on the track)?

Seems like DH is for those who don't have the fitness and stamina to competitively race Enduro :heh:

Given the shitfight which is DH racing at smaller venues I am not surprised it is being hurt here in OZ by Enduro. Having a specialist bike and needing shuttles just isn't that exciting when it turns into an all day affair just to smash out some runs.

As a race organiser it would be heaps easier to have a few smaller tracks without need for shuttles etc. Having a bike that can still hit most of the lines hard but can also pedal around the bush and get up hills is much more appealing. Particularly for those who have put on some years since the mindless balls to the wall DH runs of their early 20's.

Nice... a big part of my cost was forks. Not being able to get lyrik/pike from OS for under 1k meant getting fox 36s locally for significantly more. Oh well.

Yeah true, my 170 lyrics were $1100.. I timed it well, was doing my shopping a few months either side of stocktake sale time and into 2016 runout time (September ish)

here in VIC its really not a hassle as most DH tracks are within a 2 hour drive of Melbourne and while you need shuttles they run either every weekend or once a month. One thing we don't need is more places like you yangs with toned down half arsed DH tracks. If the Enduro Muppets enjoy pedaling so much then how about removing shuttles from Enduro events and riding back to the top. Isn't that what Enduro is derived from endurance.

That's pretty much what happens, even in the EWS.
