It was the busiest I have ever seen it at Majura this morning, more people today than I have seen combined in 3 years. Don't know what's going on but seems like everyone came out today.Did a quick lap this morning, more people on E-bikes who have no business being on those trails than I've ever seen before. Also heaps of families with slow young kids on trails that really aren't appropriate for them.
We really need more trails with clear variation and a strat coms plan behind them in Canberra, shit is just getting over-crowded. The trails are being ridden into disrepair and the people who did all the advocacy and shovel work to get basic trail infrastructure in place aren't getting fair return for all their work.
@Tubbsy any idea on what the latest is with those new networks that were supposed to be getting built?

Same. Was out at the same time Saturday and Sunday mornings. On Saturday, the bike riders were outnumbered by the dog walkers. This morning was nuts though. Think there was a big training group there (Dynamic Motivation) and bumped into about a dozen of them on one of the lower trails. It was the busiest I have ever seen it at Majura this morning, more people today than I have seen combined in 3 years. Yeah I counted three distinct large groups and then a few pairs. Ran into some nice riders down from Wollongong for the weekend so seems there were some blow ins as well.Same. No funding in the upcoming budget, have to agitate (yet) again next FY…@Tubbsy any idea on what the latest is with those new networks that were supposed to be getting built?
Speed cushions?
Haha, I was just laughing about what sounds like a euphemism. But those are the best kind, not like those awful tall narrow things.Speed Cushions, Rubber Speed Cushions, Rubber Cushion - Saferoads
The Saferoads rubber speed cushions are designed to provide a road safety system that engages the driver to reduce speed with minimal driver discomfort.www.saferoads.com.au
Requirements of the DA and or TCCS.WTF is a village green area?! Seems like a patch of space that could be much better utilized. And why so many disabled parking spaces? Is this really the kind of facility that would attract such a number of disabled drivers? I swear, there’s like 3 times as many disabled parking spaces in Canberra than there are disabled people.
Sorry, wasn’t intending to put shit on the mob you work for, assumed that the parameters were provided by the DA.Requirements of the DA and or TCCS.
When parking is formalised there is a requirement to provide a certain number of disabled spots per normal spots.
Not defending the requirement, but there is no way around it to get design acceptance with TCCS if non-compliant.
I think they are in the mid-stage of the development process and the plan above is high level, there may be an intent for other facilities in the open space, but that is only a guess.Sorry, wasn’t intending to put shit on the mob you work for, assumed that the parameters were provided by the DA.
Reckon they should now Shift handle bar to a more relevant loc, like on that green space.
Yep a proper bitumen pump track in the green area makes more sense. They could even cut a bit of that triangle off on the right hand side which would be enough bitumen. I heard there would be more parking for the crit track near the new section so there's enough car spaces and it would keep some roadies out of the MTB car parkWTF is a village green area?!
Scotty T said:Just writing to you about this as I've been chatting to some in both the MTB and skate communities about the new carpark project just announced.
We all want a pump track more than parking spaces and a village green, so if some parking spaces could be sacrificed to make a proper bitumen pump track that would be awesome, after all it's the same material
I heard there would be more parking near the new crit track extension so there's still plenty of parking.
Will the spaces be larger to accommodate people taking bikes off the roof?
CSA and CROSS as the only skateboarding groups using Stromlo would be delighted to see a pump track as it increases the types of skate activities that can be done, the current pump track is not rideable on a normal skateboard so cuts out all the people who don't have specialised equipment for rougher terrain. A proper bitumen pump track, which I am stunned has happened all around us throughout NSW but not here, would be awesome for a large user base of bikes and roller sports.
Can we lobby for a pump track? I was thinking of starting a petition, I am almost certain we'd get massive support for a pump track at the expense of a few parking spaces. Would that be worth doing or is this pretty much finalised?
