COVID-19: who’s going full doomsday prep on this?

Daniel Hale

She fid, he fid, I fidn't
Same young guy has now come down to me, within 2 feet, to tell me to turn vol down, when it's a guy down the aisle, he goes to him & the guy playing the movie shouts at him to fuck off now or hell drop him..
PS conductor has not checked any tickets today

Another supermarket story

Well I just visited the big supermarket for the first time since all this began and especially since the announcements last night.
was absolutely appalled.
Vast majority wandering around like nothing out of the ordinary.
People crowding the tills. No enforcement of protocol.
I asked the check out girl if she thought people were following the guidelines and her words were “they don’t seem to give a shit”

Theres no way we’re coming out of this lightly.
That will be the next lever the government needs to pull. When Wuhan was locked down, only one family member was allowed out once every three days to resupply. We need to start limiting access to the supermarkets in groups based on time of day or day of week etc. - no different to the way the elderly were given the first hour each morning to do their shopping.

These are the morons that will kill people. This ISN'T the flu as there is NO vaccine - just as there are no vaccines for SARS or MERS either.

I doubt a couple of dole payments will prevent working people from going under, it's not going to pay rents and mortgages. If you didn't save for a rainy day you're screwed I suppose, the writing has been on the wall for years, have a look at some of the posts that @hifiandmtb has put up in the past.

There's ways to alleviate the problems, heaps of trainee nurses can't even get jobs but I believe the biggest problem ATM is LACK OF ICU BEDS.
I could live quite comfortably off the amount of money being offered, and that would include maintaining a mortgage. I am in a different boat to most though. I'm pretty sure there will be some fresh info out from banks etc today regarding their efforts to reduce foreclosures as well.

Where does the machinery for your ICU beds come from? I don't suspect it is just sitting in a warehouse waiting to be switched on. The lack of beds will probably become a problem and some people will die as a result. This is terrible and not something we would wish on people. Some people will die regardless of their access to these beds, which is also terrible. But the issues are bigger than just treating sick people. Actions (like giving away more money) taken now have the potential to reduce the number of people who's lives will be destroyed by sliding into uncontrollable poverty and may also expedite a normalisation of life after Covoid.

One of my greatest hopes is that all this "wash your fucking hands!!!" propoganda has a lasting impression on it country.

FYI - The police around here seem to be running the zero fucks policy. I just rode down one of the main care strips behind a police car. Me being on the footpath seemed to be of more interest to them than the cafes that were trading as if nothing was going on. And of course they stopped for coffee

who are the arseholes, the organisation or the people that work there?
Both. While I haven't worked for Centrelink, when I was a public servant I did have the pleasure of working with a number of people who had transferred from Centrelink. The organisation by its nature and practise attracts and retains and also nurtures a certain type of mentality. Sure they have a shit job and deal with difficult clients in an often conformational manner and I wouldn't want to do it, but...some places attract a certain type. I'm sure there are some nice people there, just like there are some nice police officers and some people in the military aren't kill bots so you can unclentch your butt cheeks.

Walks the walk
The message to stay at home, if you don't NEED to go somewhere don't, was just reiterated as the most important step RIGHT NOW, from the Chief of Health and Biosecurity at CSIRO, first hand in a staff webinar. Anyone doubting this message doesn't understand the gravity of the situation. Saying people are overreacting is not helping. Stay the fuck home, the message is serious, this is not the fucking flu!

Everyone has the chance to go belly up from this no matter who you are and of coarse you're going to keep businesses in necessity going. Keeping as many people possible isolated is the best way forwards so far, it worked in China didn't it ? Helping people that are really in need is quite different to giving money away to people for spending at their own leisure in my eyes.

People need to put their adult pants on and realise you don't die if you're poor, life might be harder I agree yes, You're not going to instantly die if you can't buy a new car every few years or own you're 4 or 5 bedroom house mortgage. The more this virus spreads, the more it's going to take out hospital staff and other people that you rely on to survive, doing everything people can do to stop the spread is going to be beneficial financially in the long run anyway. There's tough times ahead no doubt but no point going to work if most of your staff will end up sick not being able to work in any case for a longer period or at the worst deceased. Money is not more important than life folks.

Has anyone heard of a brick?
Judging by toilet paper sales, many are shitting bricks...

Don't forget to breathe.

I ran out of fresh veggies. Figured I'm not locked down yet so went and purchased some from a large chain grocery store that was not one of the big 2, an iga, or German. This place regularly has good prices on fresh fruit and veggies...not today. Definite signs that prices of items I normally buy having gone up (eg garlic $29/kg, brussel sprouts $18/kg, cauliflower $11/head). Maybe it's a supply based price hike, maybe not. They also do (like their competitors) rotating specials on meat. Each week there is a different cut of pork, chicken, and beef on special. Not this week! Where the signs for what is on special are normally placed was other signs letting me know how into service or farmers or goat porn they are.

Don't worry, the Jehovah witness will be around in a few days once they figure out everyone is at home.
