FFS automakers, just make some decent wagons again!
Arguably, the SUV crossover wagon blob things that dominate part of the sales charts not completely obliterated by dual cab utes are little different from the stock Falcon and Kingswood wagons of the 1960s and 70s in terms of their ground clearance.

Otherwise, Mazda still makes the 6 in wagon form...not that it sells many. Mercedes Benz has just said it's ending wagon versions of its sedans too (along with many other body styles too).

Agreed, people have moved on from wagons (as they were).

SUV's are higher off the ground, easier to get in and out, full tailgate like a wagon, seats fold down, more ground clearance and a bigger choice.

There used to be so many Subaru Liberty wagons on the roads here, now I dont see any, all Foresters, CX5's and Rav4's now.

Thats a shame, Merc makes some very nice wagons. C63 V8 wagons were wonderful! But the higher profit margins on SUVs are hard to ignore - if idiots are dumb enough to buy them, theyre dumb enough to pay extra :)

Hired a Model 3 from Evee again for a holiday down the coast, Golf has a slippy clutch which won't be fixed before we go away. I always get excess reduction, has saved me on windscreen and wheel damage in the past. For four days hire with the reduction the Tesla is about $20 more than a hybrid Corolla when you account for fuel.

I'm making that trip to and from the coast regularly at the moment. I reckon I'd easily see ten Model 3s each one-way trip.

Being very much down hill from Canberra I use about an eighth of tank of diesel on the way there, but easily a quarter on the way back. Being enthusiastic on The Clyde probably contributes haha.

Does the EV consumption behave similarly?

Can get about 20-30km range on regen down Clyde Mountain. I came up through Kangaroo Valley last time, followed a local who was in a hurry to get home and was pretty close to the limits of his souped up 4wd, and my limits in a hire car, which meant we had to stop in Goulbourn to top up for 15 mins, and of course the Tesla told us this not too long after the fanging up the hill.

Oddjob

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
But what about the panel gaps....?!
They're perfect.

In fairness though, Porsche is hardly alone in running into EV problems. My friendly GTR specialist used to be head mechanic at a large dealership, and they had a lot of batteries replaced under warranty for Kia/Hyundai. I'm not going to list all the Tesla hiccups, but there have been some doozies as well.

I expect that EVs will get a lot better over the next 10 years as manufacturers work out the niggles and ramp up scale.

Thanks goodness they've totally ironed out all the ICE car design/manufacturing hiccups.

I feel like right now is almost the worst time in history to be buying a new car. It seems like ICE cars have gotten slightly more efficient but more complex and less reliable over the last decade or so, but EV is not quite where it needs to be yet.

Maybe I'm just being a luddite and need to take off the rose-tinted glasses.

Yes and no... The complexity has crept in because of consumer demand for more toys, and in response to emissions and safety regulations. The latter is arguably for good reasons and increased complexity due to those demands is not a bad outcome I think.

The toys can certainly go, and as Renault discovered when it relaunched the Dacia brand as a no frills option using older already amortised Renault platforms but with up to date basic safety they sold like hot cakes. There is a market for no frills for sure.

Do electric cars make sense financially at the moment?
Kona Electric: Elite $58000 and the Highlander is $61000
Kona N Line Premium: $48000

Is there a worthwhile car?

I'd like to carry mountain biles.

The idea is good but I still don't see the reality for all the cuntry

You can carry mountain bikes on anything - towbar and platform rack.

Yes I can, but a $10,000 premium over a polluting car is really hard to get myself over
Both options cause horrendous pollution, just the e less so, and don't get me wrong, that's good.

Some people make it sound like electric cars are some kind of magic bullet that will single handedly stop humanity from further depleting the earth's resources.
