Never accused you of devaluing anyone else's post merely saying any valid contribution about the topic should stay in one thread, please re-read my post.

I am just making a suggestion and if it not taken up I said my piece and theres nothing I can do.

We going off topic now - Please continue updating us with post. Your effort is appreciated. :)
i've like to do it in a slightly different manner but there just isn't any other way i'm afraid.

i understand peoples grievances but there just isn't any other way i can get timely/chronological documentation. posts can only be so big and constant editing is very difficult, not to mention you wouldn't know when i'd made what update.

Dude, fuck off with your 100 posts a day. Can you not just give us a daily update, like a normal person would?
wow...just wow...i cant tell if you are trying to be a "under the radar comedian" or being for real. Either way it was not necessary.

I have no problem and appreciate what 77 is doing but in defence of Dozer - this is an Off topic "Discussion" forum, I am also interested in what other people had posted as well! Its annoying having to track back 5 pages to see what other poster has said. (E.g. how Dozer coped flak for trying to canned this thread)

77: If no one had posted after your latest post, can you used the edit button instead? Thank you. :)
How often is there a popular uprising in Egypt? Havent seen one since... what... ages back?

I'm having trouble even getting the Aljazeera feed now. Drops out every 5 minutes now... This is REALLLL big!

Some details on what the scene is like in Cairo from our (reuters) correspondents on the street there:

Effigies of Mubarak were hung from traffic lights and some protesters carried a mock coffin. The crowd included lawyers and other professionals as well as workers and students, showing the breadth of opposition to Mubarak. Women and men stood together holding hands.

Soldiers in Tahrir (Liberation) Square, which has become a rallying point for the protests, erected barbed wire barricades but made no attempt to interfere with people. Tanks daubed with anti-Mubarak graffiti stood by.

Barbed wire barricades also ring the presidential palace, where Mubarak is believed to be hunkered down.

Said protester Walid Abdel-Muttaleb, 38: "We have done the difficult part. We have taken over the street . . . Now it's up to the intellectuals and politicians to come together and provide us with alternatives."

A stage, soundsystem and projector is being set up in Tahrir Square in anticipation of someone addressing the protesters. Either ElBaradei or prominent scientist Ahmed Zuweil will speak to protesters later tonight.

BBC news app just posted this:-

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has said that he will not stand for re-election in September, as protests against his rule grow.

Speaking on state TV, Mr Mubarak promised constitutional reform, but said he wanted to stay until the end of his current presidential term.

The announcement came as tens of thousands rallied in central Cairo urging him to step down immediately.

The demonstration was the biggest since protests began last week.

The BBC's Jim Muir, among the protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square, says the crowd erupted in jubilation after hearing the president's speech.

Egyptians are patient, he says, and may be prepared to wait for a few more months for his departure.

Mr Mubarak said he would devote his remaining time in power to ensuring a peaceful transition of power to his successor.

But he criticised the protests, saying what began as a civilised phenomenon turned into a violent event controlled by political cowards.

He said he had offered to meet all parties but there were political powers that had refused dialogue.

the big one: mubarek addresses the country (about an hour ago).

State TV Interview: "AlJazeera has harmed this country more than Israel" in the way it misled the "kind-hearted" youth of Egypt

speech transcript:

Dear Brothers - I speak to you in difficult times - taking the country to the unknown, youth are demonstrating for a reason, but many are trying to jump on the bandwagon, The demonstration changed from a civilized march into an ugly destructive movement, ...looting, fire, outlaws. We are living in very difficult times. the events of the past days force us to choose between two roads. We need to be very vigilant. I have started forming the new government with new targets, assigned a VP to dialogue with the opposition, All this to maintain peace and safety. However, there seems that some who did not want to negotiate .. and did not want peace for this country and due to these circumstances ..speaking to you all, I never wanted power nor money ...I am an army officer .. my priority is peaceful transition, "I never want to run for president again. I say it clearly.. I will stay until the end of this termI will ask the parliament to amend the constitution, so that (other) people can run for this postI am asking the new government to work with the people... socially...economically..I will continue serving this country fairly "I will see to it that the corrupt are caught and put on trial. I promise you this until the end of this term ..Egypt will emerge from these events stronger..with a brighter future Hosni Mubarak who is speaking to you today .. is proud of having served you .. I lived with you and for you .. I will die on this town. History will judge me, God bless you ...
crowds response?

hopeful, but livid.

"My english father and egyptian mother are completely indignant. He is right that forces have tried to bring gv't down......but those forces (that tried to bring gv't down) were his."

"People will not rest until he steps down. We are angry and indignant. The whole family is livid with rage."

"Step by step the thing has been played wrong. We still don't have internet. If things are good why is he isolating us?"

"He is worth billions. He has the gall to say he never wanted personal profit."

speech continued!

We face a new changing reality and want the army and people to work with us to promote the best for Egypt & its children. Opposition refused.. so I will now speak directly to the people: farmers & workers, Muslims & Christians, sheikhs & youths. This great country is my country too, the same way it is every Egyptian’s country. I have lived in Egypt, waged war for it, fought for its people - & I will die on its land & history will be the judge of me
