That was bloody hard work- rollercoaster reverse was brutal in the conditions. Some excellent new singletrack at Wingello. Going for a snooze.

Gota agree, I did the half fling, thought is was really tough and with the other added bits added about 20mins to the course duration when run in reverse, so many climbs, so much heat, so many pained faces at the finish - but I enjoyed every minute

Agreed. I saw the sign "rollercoaster", and yeah what i experienced was far from that. Seemed like a lot more up then down :p And by that stage i hammered.

5pts for putting a 1cm rip in the middle of the tread of my rear tyre 10 minutes into the race. Slipped a $10 note in to cover it, and it was thankfully fine for the next 105km ;)

All in all, it was bloody hard, the heat especially, thankfully there was some wind.

Btw - looks like castech got hammered. Their servers having issues atm.

As a roadie I found the third stage very tough. I did the fling 2 years ago and was looking forwards to smashing down fire road to the finish but what we got was single track and more single track. I'd made it to the 2nd transition in a bit over 4 hours and was feeling good but the rollercoaster just did for me. I got slower and slower and fell off 3 times in the space of 10 km. I was just too tired and was simply riding off the track.

Even when we hit the road with 5 km to go there was a final sting in the tail with a left turn into a paddock and a few more grassy hills to traverse. I passed a number of half flingers here who didn't look very happy. I'd left the 2nd transition thinking I might make five and a half hours and ended up over six having spent more then 2 hours struggling through the stage 3.

A much harder fling but, all in all, a great day out and I'll be back fitter and stronger next year.

Stage three started of well....... lots of down, and lots of smooth trail. The killer was Roller Coaster and all that new single track. And what about that cruel climb up the grassy hill? Had myself down to do this stage in less than 2 hours. 3 hours later..... The heat and humidity were the major killers though. Thank god for that little spell of rain. Saw quite a few pulling the pin at Wingello before stage 3.
Unicyclists????? I couldn't keep up with one of them on the Wingello single track. A supreme effort!!

Twas my first Fling this year and I must say I was very impressed (did the Half Fling). Rego etc was very well organised, rider etiquette was great and the atmosphere of being in the forest with a couple of thousand of like-minded souls is top shelf. The course was very well marked and great to ride, except for the bastard grassy hills. May I reiterate, grassy hills, you are bastards. I will confess to having a "Whose farkin idea was this, why am I doing this?!" moment on the grassy climb up to the 10km to go marker but I got over it. Was happy with my time too (2:57).

My one gripe: the t shirts. They are utter shite and look more like an ad for Baker's Delight than anything even remotely associated with mtb. "Best Fling Since Sliced Bread"? Give me a farkin break, lamest mtb event shirt ever produced - no mean feat in itself. Had the design been advertised at the time of registerig for the event I could've saved myself $35.

Congrats to all who completed the event in it's various formats. Hopefully someone called the mental health specialists in to cart away the plonker on the unicycle.

Did the 100 mile today, never raced up there before. Hills! I was the Lanterne Rouge of the 100 milers who made it past the cutoff. The hills were insane. Not my cup of tea. A few DNFs from injuries unfortunately, by the looks of it.

Fark that was a tough day in the office. That's the most horrendous thing I've put myself through.

My aim was sub 6 hrs and I got 5:52 but I am so so on my result.

Felt fine up until about the 50km mark then rode the last 60 with everything in my legs cramping. Then at 80kms all the muscles in my torso started spasming. Never had problems with either before. I still rode everything except The Wall though.

Fitness wise I still felt like I had plenty to put in at the end but the cramps pulled me back every time. Kind of leaves me wth a hollow feeling. Just didn't happen for me on the day I guess.

My first full fling. Loved the 2nd stage, sweet single track etc. Pretty happy coming in under 8hrs. Hardtail was nasty on the fast open, but not smmoth sections, like the paddocks and some fire road.

Didn't love the uphill roller coaster or the long slow push (had no choice but to walk) up the grassy hills in the GU stage especially coz it was out in the stinking hot sun.

Nor going to stop me from doing it again, it's a great event.

Pain, sweat and nausea sums it up for me. That was harder than last year's Angry Dr. Had nothing left when I reached the very depressing 10km to go sign but managed to crawl back to the finish line. I really don't understand why I wanted to put myself through that. I really don't understand why I will be back for more.

My first fling too.

Damn I felt way out of my depth lining up at the start with a beat up hardtail and baggies in amongst all the CF duallies and bling gear.
