I just read the basic plot premise on Wikipedia. I don't understand women at all if they are swooning over this guy.

because the majority of women are raised with Disney princesses as role models, and don't get me started on I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched and associated mysoginistic (sp) crap.

ask John Howard and Tony Abbot what a woman's role is, the pornification of society to the point that there's now mum and bub pole-dancing classes, and the whole "make me a sammich" thing, and ask yourself why society as a whole, women *and* men, are screwed.

I'll give you Jeannie, but c'mon Bewitched was great ! They addressed so many current issues in a way that wasn't overtly offensive to stuffy white men... Greatest example of which is Samantha and Darren are in a mixed marriage in the 60s. There's many times you just want to club Dumbdumb, but doesn't Endora always get her point across and Derwood apologises in the end ??? The work Elizabeth Montgomery did IRL for the LBGT community and still managed to keep her show on the air was pretty impressive. Dolphin acted like he wore the pants, but it was all Sammie. It's always her idea that rescues them from the screw ups. DoDo is consistantly shown to be a bit of a bumbling idiot.

Frankly I don't want those idiots soiling the good name of my city (Seattle) anymore. I'm sure that f-ing b-word c-word who wrote the damn *fanfic* has never even been there or knows what the place is like at all. I hate to think all those fanboys and girls dream of visiting Seattle because they think it's like the crap in those books/movies. If it keeps people away though....

i'l concede your points, but the overall impression to a young girl like i was, was that she was suppressed in the natural talent by her husband - even tho that's who she was when he met her. and the fact that she then kowtows to his demands that she appear "normal" and goes on to suppress those very same natural expressions in their children?

give me Morticia Addam's marriage anyday. there was a woman who was the centre of her household, absolutely adored by her husband, and totally unflappable.

Unrealistically hard exams. A semester of hard work and come exam time, I go from an HD to a Cr. If I hadn't put in the work, I would have no objection. But there are over 100 students in a 180 student course who have to sit a supplementary exam, simply because this exam was unrealistically hard. It was longer, more specific and used more complex concepts than exams in previous years.

While I realise I still scored in the top end of the cohort, I'm looking at doing medicine next year and am reliant on my GPA for entry which is concerned with my raw score, not how well I did compared to everyone else. It feels like beating your head against a wall.

I however am very normal. Trust me.
As someone who writes an marks exams I would be working out what went wrong. I'm happy to fail 100 slack students, but normally I'd expect a fail rate to be below 20% tops. Admin always go nuts if the fail rate is too high, it makes it tempting to pass the slackers that only failed by a small margin.

Was the subject taught properly? was the exam representative of the course material?

You can always contact you student advocacy service if you feel something was unjust, they have more power than you think.

I once passed an exam with 7 other people 51% :) the other 300 failed... neuroscience. maybe they'll give a derived mark.

The subject was taught really well, the lecturer was thorough and the content was definitely appropriate. I learnt a hell of a lot in terms of both knowledge and practical lab skills. So I have no qualms about the teaching. Assessment throughout the semester was also appropriate-the top students were getting >90% with most people sitting +/- of a credit.

The issue was the degree of content specificity the exam required, and the length. Large, multi-part questions hinged on knowing minute details. One example that jumps to mind was the order of active site binding on a specific enzyme. The issue was, it was one of 8 enzymes in that particular reaction pathway, and one of easily 20 reaction pathways we learnt about. If you didn't know that, the rest of the question could not be answered. A lot of students (myself included) had a huge amount of knowledge about the various reaction pathways, but without that one specific piece of knowledge had no opportunity to express it. So I guess in a way it wasn't representative of the course material because it seemed to focus on specific knowledge that could be obtained from wikipedia, rather than overall understanding or ability to use what knowledge students had.

The second issue was the length. I wrote something like 18 pages in 3 hours including diagrams, and I still know I didn't put in sufficient detail in multiple areas. I only just finished the exam. Many did not. Either less questions, or less detail required to answer the questions, it was simply too long.

And no, the exam score wasn't scaled or derived etc, they simply added raw scores to results throughout the semester.

that i finally cracked it with my other half over the N+1 rule.

we just built a third bike for him to race Retro on, we're not quite finished building him a custom 20" to challenge 17+ class on, he's just been signed to race for a grassroots team which means a new custom 24" plus custom race gear and helmet, his current race gear is less than four months old, we have to race halfway across the state twice in the next six months, and we're in the middle of paying off a second-hand (albeit good quality) bed because our current one is giving *him* back problems. we have about 15 bikes between us, four are mine including my everyday rider. we just partially rebuilt my race bike on his insistence. i was happy with my Kuwahara.....add to this that he has three-and-a-half derelict Commodores in the yard, and we share a house with his parents as i'm their part-time carer. we have one tiny room and the back porch. i'm in the middle of re-negotiating my mortgage in another state and moving my tenants out/daughter in because she's been subject to violence and threats (to the point of AVO's) from share-housemates three times in the last eight months.

i canned our anniversary trip because i want to be able to pay for the race gear he needs, as he's chasing titles with a view to riding Worlds next year in NZ. at his age, he won't get another chance.

then he goes and buys another bike (with a history) that's frame-damaged and unrideable, just as a collector.

but i'm the bitch here......fark me.

Good one Violet. How are we supposed to reply now when our posts will seem like menial gripes and moans compared to that?

I hate football. I also hate the dickheads who watch it three times a year and carry on like it is actually important enough to scream about it all night. I hope you know how to replace the parts I melted that used to be in your meter box arseholes. Don't wake me up again or I'll melt the bricks holding your house up. Damn wanna be's.............

Don't quote me on this one......:nono:

A good way to get back at a#seholes is to get a can of the expanding building foam/crete stuff, used to seal wall cavities (its just a aerosol can with a nozzle), and fill up their letterbox.

*which* new bike?

i'll post some pics in the BMX race thread soon, and PM you when i do. i must start a retro thread too....i have to admit my new Pro-Minus 24" Formula is an awesome ride, stiff and light, and nearly as twitchy as a 20".....even tho i could do with upgrading my generic Kuwahara factory hubs. which i will, once we upgrade his...i want his old Profiles, they're sexy.

his GHP custom raw that i designed off the frame we acquired...well, it's to be honest.....fucking brilliant. Risen internal raw I-beam forks and Bombshell raw cranks, the new Bombshell hubs coming, custom frame decals, etc...

i might not personally be able to ride at that level, but i *can* build them to suit the rider. nice to know seven years at uni in bodywork isn't wasted.

I'm hearing ya! Lets just say the letterbox has been launched into the atmosphere by an unknown offender and not exactly landed in an area that is retrievable for the owner of said letterbox. What would one suggest is the next best thing to do? I have a few tubes of liquid nails that could hold some doors shut quite well. I guess that could keep some noise down a little?

There's no need to go as far as that. Just remember that State of Origin is only 3 times a year whereas there are 20 races in an F1 season and the cars can make a fair racket when run through a decent amp and stereo system!

even better if you can put them at the windows that correspond to the neighbours bedroom windows. for that matter, the TDF commentary can get pretty loud...and the BMX Olympics coverage is fast coming up. England is what, 11 hours out of sync with us?

and earplugs are cheap :p

My problem is my TV and sound system are on the opposite side of the house to their windows. I'm thinking of airing a few races outside whilst sitting back next to the fire, that'll fix 'em. The other problem is they are lightweights and usually get drunk in a few sips and hit the floor on a Sunday night and won't wake up as they are totally rooted from the previous night sinking lolly water.
I'm thinking it is time I bought Halloween to their house; Mike Myer's style dress up and some real fear should send them packing. ;)

A Grand Prix car versus a road race commentary team and / or a BMX crowd? You need to get yourself trackside and experience Formula One my good friend. There ain't much other than a fighter jet to match the sound. I would prefer to use the Tour De France commentary and the BMX crowd to annoy people as that is about all it's good for!

my point exactly :D

i've spent most of my life living under the flightpath of small-plane airports including the Fighter Jet Museum here in Radelaide. those bad boys sure can rock your fillings!
