Utterly appalling.

Interesting to note the number of 'vigilante-style' operations going down amongst shop owners though.

The UK hasn't had anything that could be even remotely described as a left-wing government since the 1970's and the only real time it's ever been regarded as a 'socialist' country was during the founding of the National Health Service back in the 1940's. The last government -Tony Blair's 'New Labour'- got into power in 1997 by scrapping most of Labour's left-wing ideals and placed itself at the centre of the political spectrum (thus forcing the tories even further right).

If you really believe that the massive army of teenage kids running rampant through the streets are doing so because of a hankering for Marxist ideals and a return to an era when a lot of their parents hadn't even been born, then you have some serious issues with reality.

Someone brought up this hypothetical today and I reckon we have a decent enough populous that is capable of forming strong vigilante groups and could squash it all quick smart. I'm not talking Cronulla drunken yobbo rubbish, but if you put the call out to the local football or cricket leagues for example and rallied everyone to come together and defend their towns....I think it would be an amazing thing. Most of the looters are cowards, you see them scurrying around and covering their faces and often running away when they aren't even danger...they get a bit of confidence with strength in numbers but if you bring on my vigilante army they would run for the hillsirate:

This shit isn't about race, colour or religion... it's about the social class. Moreover, I think its a direct result of the generations of welfare support these people have endured and never had to give back... along the lines of what Andrew said.

The people rioting are the equivalent of our "dole bludgers"... they're freeloading (literally) scum who don't work, have responsibilities, let alone have anything productive or constructive to contribute to society... they effectively have too much time on their hands, slangin their drugs and pimpin their hoes (none of which contributes any tax ).

The poms need to harden up and tackle these plebs who are wrecking the livelihoods of small businesses, households and communities... send in the army or something.

And yes... David Cameron is doing the right thing (pun intended)... it's about time governments took responsibility and started paying back their own debts

Haha well it's the calling of any minority group isn't it... Look at the Greens.. just a couple years ago they were some little minority that nobody ever listened to (and rightly so)... but their persistence paid off.

There's a reason for that, as I and many other (far more informed) forum members have told you, you wouldn't be saying that if you were in their situation. This mentality is engrained in generations of people and simply cutting government handouts would almost certainly lead to widespread crime and anti authoritarianism similar to what you see in these riots.

I think I've got the answer... Britain simply needs to find a modern day equivalent of 18th century Australia. That way they can sail away their worries
