Are any other manufacturers doing this? Cotic have paused shipping to EU until they work out the tariffs on their Taiwan-sourced parts, but made no change to rest of world.

^^ @slowmick - you too ?

I have been watching and fiddling with the chain reaction page - but everything is out of stock .
Had alternative bikes - but my phone n internet searching has only bought up - maybe in April - otherwise August for most manufacturers .

All conversations seem to end in tears - from the retailers.

Cant sell if no stock - this is across the board too - a Trek store in Melbourne has 2 bikes on the floor - both fuel 9.7 - which may be my default position ...
One store i spoke with has one bike coming in ...( not a Trek )

Niche stores all seem to have $12 k plus rigs in stock - all high end spec .

Also no spares in stock on mtbdirect and other online sources - even os - so hard to upgrade current bike .

@rextheute - i think i will be riding my current bike into the ground in the hope something is in stock towards the middle of the year.

Have been told that some bike shops won't see stock till August. Some stock seems to be rolling in from Giant and Norco but there will be no bargains for quite a while.

This is why Stanton shifted all their manufacturing to the UK. Saw which way the wind was blowing with the imminent clusterfuck development of Brexit and invested in moving everything in house. Hope it pays off.

Thanks for all the bananas
My understanding is yes they do. Titanium hardtails were first to be moved over, then the FS bikes, then the steel hardtails. Built a full blown paint shop too. Bit of manufacturing porn for anyone interested (contains fire).
Yep this will definitely stop them from paying additional duties but at what cost? Manufacturing in the UK is really expensive. If they were already overcharging for bikes in the first place then maybe they can absorb it?

Yeah confuses me as to why Nukeproof wouldn't just shift their warehousing (or most of it) to the EU alongside their manufacturing and maintain the benefit of EU trade agreements with global markets and then just maintain a smaller distro in the UK for that domestic market specifically. Obviously doesn't help that their biggest retail partner is also UK based but surely maintaining their price point which has always been one of their biggest attractions is worth the bit of effort.

Given the UK didn't even have a trade deal with the EU until the 11th hour, I'd imagine there are a lot of companies scrambling to understand it and keep their imports profitable (or short term, just keep them going).

May also be an opportunity to shift Nukeproof a bit more upmarket. The product looks tastier and more cohesive than it's ever been so they may be looking at launching a bit of Hill inspired brand recognition while keeping Vitus as the "bargain" brand.

Up market... Pfffffft. If the product comes from Taiwan it is generic, period. Regardless of who's sticker or what tricky patent they have...it's a generic robot frame. Don't let these clowns push their retail prices up by pretending that isn't the case.

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.

Alot of frames are hand welded in Taiwan, and those guys are pretty good.
I’ll take a Taiwanese frame over a murican frame every day of the week.

That can’t be the UK, theres no nudie posters.

I'm not knocking Taiwanese frames, all of mine except one come from there. I just think there are a lot of companies stretching the truth about their boutique status when they really mean weak buying power.

I even like robot frames! What is more consistent? A robot or a human?

That depends on the man running the robot.

And I'd be willing to bet they'd be a lot of Taiwanese companies who could belt the shit out of anything made anywhere else. They take their fabrication very seriously.

Are there nudie posters in the Aston Martin factory? Genuine question.
