I haven't thought that far ahead yet to be honest but once the constitution changes are passed will be looking into it. Something like Patreon would be good as I assume it has an auto renewal or annual reminder thingy.
Depending on how large the club base is you want to mange - any CRM software or even an excel spreadsheet can track people that are financial and when they need to renew - Patreon and the like take a % of the money collected - other option you have is like the archery club does where all memberships are due in March every year - just need a bulk mail out then stating funds due

The top level of insurance covers you for 80% of your normal wages (small print, to a maximum of $250 per week). Covers 80% of medical expenses (fine print - not including anything partially covered by Medicare or any pharmaceuticals). The lower levels (day licences and social licences) cover you for less, or even nothing but public liability.

I wasn't expecting miracles, and every bit helps, but looking into this properly while thinking for years "yeah, it's all good I'm covered" was somewhat deflating. My little fuck up cost us a significant chunk of our savings while I couldn't work.

Good information to know, thanks for sharing but that sucks you had to find out the hard way. Thinking back, I busted my shoulder playing touch footy and tried to claim what I could on the club insurance. The whole ‘partially covered by Medicare’ and something about not covering gap payments from private health insurance made club insurance completely worthless to cover medical costs when I had an ambulance trip, multiple doctors visits, specialists and surgery in the end.

We've had a good experience with MBTA insurance. Well MBTA, not the insurer themselves as they were c%nts. MBTA had to get involved to make the payout finally happen. But the Medicare bit is shit. If Medicare put any contribution in to part of the fees it's over. So really only covers the hospital part and physio I think we found if you go public.. If you have Private health it's probably useless.

When i did my shoulder I put a claim in with MTBA. I sent in everything I was out of pocket for and they decided how much I got back. They only give a percentage of your out of pockets and exclude a lot of stuff. The fuck around with all the paperwork netted me a few hundred bucks out of 2-3 grand spent. Was mostly surprised they didn't have a form for an accident while recreational riding/training seeing as they specifically cover it. They sent me the overseas travel form....

I get the sentiment, but also see their side of it too. If they went out and refunded everyone's lost time they'd probably go bust. It's not their fault covid came along and stopped events dead.

(FWIW, I don't have any great love for mtba, not after finding out how useful the insurance is)
To be fair, MTBA's running costs haven't decreased.
They have retained all of their staff through covid.
Their insurer wouldn't give them a break on their annual premium either....
No ones running costs have decreased... but everyone realised that they couldn't screw their loyal members while there was nothing happening. All 3 of the Race licences I pay for expired around Sept, so we went 6 months from March with no events.
As far as I am aware, gyms, fitness centres and sporting clubs froze or deferred memberships at around 100% hit, not automatically dropping people back to rec or anything else where they still got an income but added 'months' on to existing memberships. Buildings were empty, mortgages, insurance and rents still had to be paid.

After 3 months of no events, I sent MTBA an email and got a reply saying..

We are aware that our race members have been mostly affected by the COVID-19 due to race cancellations. However, as the race membership also provides 24/7 insurance coverage for recreational riding, we won't make changes to our memberships at this stage.

We aim to find a solution which is fair and consistent for all of our financial members. The duration of current social distancing guidelines and race bans play an important factor in this regard.

You're part of a community of over 17,000 people supporting the development of mountain biking throughout Australia. Thank you for your contribution to the progression of our sport
Health insurers and car insurers dropped premiums by 15-20% as people were driving less, working from home and restricted in their travels. It was a simple question to MTBA with a less than satisfactory answer.

Most of the world has taken big hit and MTBA choose to run my, nearly $500 worth of race licences to zero, then sent me a renewal for 3 more while there was still no racing.

Boys were renewed in Sept, they have probably done 6 races since then... but this ex-loyal MTBA member will pay the $20 day licence for the FTF and maybe $20 for the Coomie... If I get fit again, maybe $20 for the Dirty Weekend 24.

Does AMBC even do a club only membership now without insurance ?

is there a cheap family option, or has that been dropped?
Still there if you send them an email and renew all on the same day, 10% off 2 or 15% off 3, so about $40 savings (club membership not included)... about the same amount they have just raised it by.
