Yep socialist leaning bulk billing practice , currently own 2 old cars 2003 Navara and Forester, and ride my bike to work so I can justify my bike collection, all bikes in the $500 to $1500 worth range so no wealth there either.
Generally our public system is OK but the entitled fat baby boomers are sucking it dry.

You can’t say that, it’s your avocado toast habit that’s running this country into the ground!

03 forrester’s are the best forresters. The new ones are too big now.

So what happens if I was to buy my mate's GT3RS and I am not a Doctor.... do I have to go to uni and get a Phd in project mismanagement?

Me?!
I'm still on my L's and have never owned a car!
The women were real, and loved dearly, but I have either messed it up or they've left me (or leaving me, as the case may be).
Got my bikes and my Uni debt at least!!
Stop bashing yourself, you're only young give it your best shot and if it doesn't work move on. ;)

I feel like gen-x gets off so lightly. I mean we deserve it but still ;)

I've had good experiences with public and private, with HCF. Shoulder surgery and ingrown toenails dome within weeks for hundreds or less. Wife had major surgery, within a month or so of the issue with a doctor from Sydney as her specialist recommended him as the best available doing that surgery from Canberra. He was very good.

I just found out I have a fucked canine tooth. Partly self inflicted. Anyway 900 bucks for removal and denture or 5k for an implant. Fun times. At least the clean and check was free.

Also just got my first eye test and reading glasses. 2 nice pairs for free. Put a 50 dollar deluxe coating for the work pair and the anti glare is good.

Swings and roundabouts. Over the years we've generally been able to afford decent but not gold cover and like almost everyone paid more than we used. Same with most insurance.

About 15 years ago I had to have a knee job done after it blew up from too many years of abuse while I was a kid/teenager. Knowing that sooner or later I was likely going to need the job done, I took out PHI. The policy I had was a bit limited in its overall scope, but it did offer a pretty decent package for my situation.

Cutting to the guts of it, the big plus of private was that I could book in exactly when I wanted to have the job done, which was about three days after the end of the sailing season, maximising recovery time before the next season. I probably would have been waiting several years in the public system, because in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a serious condition I was in. I was still about $1400 out of pocket because of the 'Gap" on surgeon's, assistant surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees (wasn't too happy about that, as per the OP - insurance is supposed to be insurance after all!), but did not pay a cent for the hospital side of things.

I eventually let it lapse because I got fed up with the extortionate annual premium hikes with no corresponding increase in benefit, and wasn't even using the extras enough to warrant paying the premium.

There is often an us and them mentality when talking about doctors which is largely undeserved. However, doctors, in Australia at least, remain a shining example of what a powerful and organised trade union can do to keep supply below demand. There's no reason there should ever be a consistent and prolonged shortage of doctors. This does not occur in any other profession in Australia.

Actually I am 64 yo but fit and not overweight and have had no illnesses .
The baby boomers I see often are fat , have hypertension, diabetes, have heart disease, want knee replacements due to arthritis, take 10 different drugs daily and dont see why they should change their lifestyle and complain about spending any money on their health , may not have private health insurance.
Actually generally there is an oversupply of doctors so some have to invent work.
To study medicine virtually cost me nothing cos in those days I had a Commonwealth scholarship.
Scum bag governments have sucked money out of the universities, since then devalued education so they have to now get foreign students to pay their costs.
Have worked ethically and bulk billed for nearly 40 years so i dont feel too bad about it.
