Project Car / Motorbike thread. Let's see 'em.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas - I just bought a 1998 CR-V for $1200. Nearly mint condition with 250k kms, full service history etc. It runs very well except it has an issue bogging down at low revs, wide open throttle. Its not quite bad enough that it chugs but it definitely bogs down for a sec, say in 2nd at 2500RPM when you go foot flat to the floor. Once it gets above like 3500RPM it revs out completely fine all the way to redline. Any ideas? I see on the notes from the previous service the mechanic has written just "intake clean recommended". Could this be the issue? What does that even entail?

Cheers guys
Could be an intake leak.

Intake clean is what you make it. Buy some spray in stuff from a store to clean the manifold or pull the manifold off to really clean and polish it. Check the air filter also. How's the exhaust pressure?

Can an engine with an intake choke redline? None of my manual choke cars or bikes could, remember the manual choke? Fark I'm old school, oh wait my whipper snipper has one....

Yes, but plugs and filters is piss easy and a mandatory first step diagnosing these issues.

Starting on another subi to VW conversion...
Fully rebuilt EJ22 with a "smallcars" shortened alloy sump and a few other cool adaptor bits this time around. Keeping the air con unit this time to fit into the kombi. A couple of pics for those interested.

Crashed out somewhere
Having to get the tailshaft modified again, and the gearbox is coming out to see what's leaking. 500rkw just has to wait.

Very keen to see if this new Nissan happens, 355kw awd in an updated 370z style body. I'm all for it. Or the Mazda kai. Or the Hyundai Santa Cruz with a real motor.

Here is the last bike I restored, have just recently sold it but it came up nice so was worth posting.
I'd always wanted a GPZ900 and after 20 odd years of motorcycles I finally got one, restore it it, and then never used it, hence the sale.

However epic you think your project is, it’s not even remotely close to this one.

17 episodes so far and they’re not halfway done, but they skill and workmanship is astounding! And it’s fun to watch :)

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.

I refuse to acknowledge that you bring anything other than salt to this forum. This post has to be negative

You guys are just slack. Catch up then wait with baited breasts (sic) like the rest of us addicts for the next episode. Gordon Murray's Mk1 Escort build is good too if you can stomach the narrator. And the rear suspension.

Our build is moving slowly. All the holes are fixed and now bodywork is ongoing. About to rebuild the struts. Will add some schraeder valves to pressurise them for testing. Then they sit until all the mechanicals are in place and the car is corner weighted to get the struts right. Oh and I am going to get a Harrop Trutrac for the diff.

Not a 'project' car as such but picked up an 03 forester XT for free early in the year with no motor. Was going to fix and sell it to make some extra cash but after mine needing all 4 wheel bearings, motor on its last legs, rear window smashed out and needing tires and rego I decided it was time to move it on and kept the XT. Bit of fun swapping a motor and test driving it with nothing but a dump pipe up a quiet street full of oldies. I'll put a bit of cash into it and squeeze out a little more power but no gold sti rims or lowering. Broke my finger as soon as I started work, engine crane was missing the bolt holding the bottom of the ram in and pushing it into the driveway the arm collapsed and smashed my finger, ton of blood and codeine and finished the motor the next day.

The Skid Factory is pretty good too, for the aussie flavour. They're currently bolting an FG turbo Barra into an ancient Bedford van which is reasonably mental!

The Project Binky guys are great, but the trigonometry bit in Episode 18 was hilarious. Tan() and then Pythagoras? What about just using sin()?

Overrated and unreliable.....

@Haakon I am interested in either original rebuilds or taking something old and fun and making it better. Shoving a big fuckoff engine in the front of something that isnt worth driving does nothing for me. LS swaps in old camaros or corvettes with upgraded running gear are worthwhile, the gods know they are a shit drive otherwise. But chucking a turbo barra in is like the 4by guys with 6BT conversions. Ah you want to put 550kg of cast iron over the front axle, ok. Bye. Not that I am adverse to a few more kW, added 30 to 40 horses to the M last week. Or not. Sssssh. It is a bit noisier now but that is because the horses are frisky!
