That happens quite a bit. Interesting side note - the local newspaper runs a fishing article each week including a photo of someone's trophy catch. I wonder how that would go if they did a hunting article?
A bunch of cat ladies would nearly have a prolapse, lotsa people get all agitated about killing defenceless animals etc and later that day will be chewing on chicken nuggets or a steak while thinking they have the moral high ground over those dreadful hunters. We have evolved you know, there's no need for hunting in this day and age. What have we evolved into though ? Why is a supermarket shopper better than a hunter ?

and I won't take a shot unless I'm confident.

Back on track, this is the issue for me about this shooting. The biker, according to ABC news, was wearing bright colours, had on a bright coloured helmet and was riding a brightly coloured bike. The dude was trigger happy. ESPECIALLY after a trail runner being killed only 2 weeks before with a single headshot by a hunter. What frightens me about riding is that someone would be so keen to take something down that he or she wouldn't actually stop long enough to even properly identify what they were shooting at.
My partner and I have been riding here at home on singletrack in State forest/park and came up behind a dude in full camo, including the frilly straw, grass shit hanging off the hood of his jacket with a fucking crossbow and he didn't even hear us. We actually stopped and waited for him to turn around and see us before we continued. And we weren't THAT quiet being on bikes.....

Both pastimes attract a lot of hostile and negative comments from people with little or no knowledge of them.
Oh god, here we go again.

They also attract hostile and negative comments from people with a lot of knowledge of them.

*qualified marksman, comp shooter at international level, been on a two way range (my 'buffalo' had their own guns).

Hunting for sport only is a cunt act. Shooting vermin and for food is just fine with me. The less guns in society, the happier I am.

Yay!

I'm out.

Down on the left!
The idea of sharing a forest with a hunter running around playing Rambo scares the shit out of me. And so it should. There is clear evidence of multiple accidental killings and injuries. To innocent people and the hunters themselves. I know of two people, friends of friends that have accidentally shot themselves!
So fucked if I want to be in the same forrest with them let alone in my neighbourhood. When hunters and gun owner can happily keep guns without those guns accidentally on purposely killing people then thats when I won't have a problem with them being in society.
But I don't ever see that happening.

Yeah the average punter likes to believe this, it's been pushed in the media relentlessly since Port Arthur. We need more gun laws, nobody needs a gun unless they are a farmer or police etc. How is it better when it only impacts the law abiding people who have something to lose from being thrown in jail ? Those on the other side of the law with illegal business interests don't bother with licensing etc, and they are the ones who get around armed in public, doing drive by shootings, occasionally killing each other, and in some cases innocent bystanders.

We have public land hunting here in Australia in several states and the few accidental deaths here have happened to hunters who were careless with their gun handling habits, and one case where a young but very experienced hunter took a new hunter along with him and was killed by the new hunter who shot at noise/movement in thick bush without getting a look at his target which wasn't a deer, but his mate.

There are around a million licensed recreational shooters in Australia, and their rate of accidents or violent crime is extremely low. Most would appreciate your military service and respect the fact you have no interest in firearms but we've heard all the Guns Are Bad stuff many times over, it doesn't win any converts to your point of view.

We're in a lot more danger driving/riding on the roads.

Yeah, call me when people start paying attention to the real issues of penis size, right V. left, greenies and socialism, warmongering and Hitler.

What a meaningless, dismissive and ignorant comment. Debases your arguments in one fast swoop.

I've fired many guns, several family members have licenses and many guns, and some serve in the military. So probably not an "average punter".

I completely agree with johnny: The less guns in society, the happier I am.

Never ceases to amaze me how quickly how people with an anti-gun sentiment stand on the graves of victims in order to push a political agenda though.
"Stand on the graves of victims"...……

Bahahahahahahaha.
