The QUICK question thread.....

Does anyone on here use current model Shimano hubs? I've always steered away from them because I don't like cup and cons hubs but the fuckers are everywhere! And so they hold any form of onsell value if I had a new set off a bike?
Yeah I have them on my Optic, also built up a ex511 with a XTR front hub for the bigger bike, don't have any issues with either.
They're only worth what someone will pay... I only got the xtr hub because it was silly cheap coz folks like you give Shimano hubs a bad wrap.

Not that I'm KOM'ing or youtubing but what's the latest mount setup for GoPro's for people? Chest mounts still the okay thing?

Hold it in your mouth. More so for 360 footage.

Cheers. It's true I am a hater. I'd be inclined to sell, was just curious if people buy them or if everyone is as switched on as I am. Obviously they'll end up in my garage gathering dust and forgotten for a few years.

I’ll second this. I picked up a set of Xtr hubs at a bargain price and run them with 481s and they have been brilliant. Held up better than the rims. I was very dubious as had dramas with earlier cheap shimano hubs but these have been fine

Why does can degreaser seem so much better the stuff you buy in bulk and mix with water? Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but it seems like the $3 cans from supercheap are great (even for caked on engine oil that's been sitting on on parts under the engine bay and mixed with dust) whereas the stuff you buy by the litre seems to be about as effective as dish soap... anyone got suggestions for some super strong stuff that is cheaper??

What bulk stuff have you been buying?

EDIT: Also, "most" water based stuff is generally as good as petroleum/solvent based stuff IMO. Same goes for industrial hydraulic oils, gear oils and greases that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years.

they are very different chemically.

the watery stuff is basically soapy water.. which will emulsify oils eventually, but not as quickly or easily (high water temp and elbow grease would help, but still not great with caked on grease). it will work on non-oil/grease to some degree also.

the Supercrap/Repco(motortech) $3 degreaser is very very good, because basically just solvent and propellant. Great for cutting through oils and greases, but not so great at stuff that is not oil/grease.
this stuff is amazing for bastardly paper wasps too!! plus is flammable in a long thin stream..... jus' sayin'.....

Have you tried CT-14?
CT14 is similar to the watery stuff (emulsifier and surfactant), BUT is fair bit better as has sodium hydroxide to cut through grease.

Would want to wash/flush hands and bike very well after, as dried on alkali is not good for aluminium or skin. (part of the soapy feeling is reacting with your skin :) )
Still not as "instant" as spray solvent, but buckets of solvent are less convenient than the aerosol solvents.
CT14 may be OK for soaking cassettes/chains if no aluminium?

Thanks People, really appreciate the comments :)

@dancaseyimages the Trek LBS people are great/friendly/not pushy, plus there are nearby alternative Trek shops too. That's a big plus. local one rarely has floor bargains as they are little shop, but they are OK with online/collect sales.

The "other" LBS's are.. sadly terrible..
the Fluid was ETA Nov, then pushed out and pushed out.. now L size no longer has an ETA this year... so fk that :) can't imagine the pain of warranty if they can't get *any* bikes in...

@Jabubu Spectral looks good/better, but not an SRAM or horizontal shock fan. Can always replace fork once i forgot how much bike initially cost :) (Maintenance/OpEx budget instead of Capital budget right?)
Tyres/wheels work until they don't, then just buy better? <100kg but imagine i'll end up with a rainbow of 29" tyres within a year.. why not?

@Mattyp @Cardy George it's *definitely* not the tyres.. or the frame.. is the legs/back/generally feebleness.
also not much sharp chunk around here, + tyres are cheap?
well.. with current outdated Geo bike, it IS the frame too (steep and short).... but mainly the rider..

@Jpez if I end up with a Banshee as N+1.. it will have it's own OnlyFans, and leave me in the dust with the old Trek ;)

I used ct-14 to unoil the prado engine bay. Worked great but absolutely flush and flush and flush then flush it again.

I'm a little surprised the sds is so old from their own website.
I'm sure the product remains the same, but in case any safety factors have changed here's a newer version:

thanks @Labcanary , I didn't check it was within 5yrs :) (and should have known.. rather than just Mcgoogling it..)

The manufacturer website link has current (issued a week ago) https://jr.chemwatch.net/CWWS/Mater...97374D2E36A63E5DB733F4F8FF727AF6910A650&mtt=1

(adds hazard H361fd.. suspected fertility damage. other minor changes (eg for EGMBE and the Eco info) but otherwise fairly similar)

I liked the Treks, and went into the showrooms and even test rode the same bike at two different stores but they just didn't excite me as much as the Summit showroom in Sydney, maybe due to alot of the 'posh' bikes they stock. But the transition was a clearance deal, last model and size medium (hard to find with everyone on here being of a tall stature) so thats what sold me, half price anything is always a deal. I think it comes down to a bit of personal preference, and then its convincing yourself that its the right purchase.
