Funny, this blog looks like it has just been started, and I find it funny that Catherine Deveny is bagging TR for blocking responses yet she does it on her own blog. And the leaked email, I have no idea if it's real or not, but Catherine could have just typed that in or worse, changed it to suit her needs.
I still think this is a major over reaction by everyone......get back to riding bikes!
Don't blow into a conversation on a cycling forum and tell people their opinion isn't valid and they should ride their bikes. A, it's a fucking forum to discuss topics relating to our scene and B; you look like a total spoonhead by posting in a thread saying we should get out and ride our bikes. Irony much?

personally I agree that a naked body should be a natural beautiful thing but guess what, I go to a bike shop and theres a woman there with her tits out all painted, I'm going to pull up a chair and sit there and stare until the police come.
Perspective is a funny thing. If the cops find naked pictures of 12 year old girls on my computer, I'm getting a prison boyfriend. If I buy a "book of art" with the same pictures then I'm cultured. I think this particular point of conversation is one that political correctness has got it right on. In our australian (americanised) culture people recognise nudity as sexual and I don't see a problem with that.

I guess the other end of the spectrum is Muslim culture where women showing their hair (and sometime faces) is considered sexual. Here in Australia we're all too ready to whinge about how Muslim men must have no self control if they need to cover their women to remove any temptation - but really is it that different to getting all offended about seeing women dressed in paint? The idea of being 'dressed' is a matter of perception and it's perfectly valid to argue that being covered in paint is just as 'dressed' as being covered in lycra.
I once attended a fashion show in Sydney where the (seemingly nude) models were 'dressed' in verbal descriptions of what they were wearing. The designer was making the point that being dressed can mean any number of things. People seemed to enjoy the show and there were no complaints.
Body painting has always been considered an artistic proposition; people who categorise it as pornography are being very conservative in the context of present day western culture.

But the difference is that the designer had a point to make at that show.
Sexuality is all about context. There's always people at the beach wearing little more fabric than the girls in question but the context is very different. I'd agree that in broad terms, nudity doesn't always equal sex (ever gotten nude at the doctors?) but we're not talking general terms, there is a specific scenario here.
And the scenario is a commercial environment with fully clothed people, and a couple of girls in high heels and frilly lingerie. Arguing that that particular case of semi nudity isn't sexual us just being obtuse.

I'm not sure there are 2 examples farther apart. On one side you have repression of women by men and on the other you have women using their sexuality for profit and influence. You could say example 1 causes example 2 by means of revolution over time. Personally, I find the enforced covering more offensive. Not saying I support tits out salespeople, but just saying.
