Cypher, I respect your views as I do with Drifking, even if I don't agree with some of what you guys say.Quote Originally Posted by steve24:

Seriously? You have to ask that?! There is a link between nudity and sex because we are almost always nude when having sex, but almost all other times we have clothes on in the presence of other people/non-sexual partners. Correlation does not always equal causation, but the link in undeniable.
If they were selling bikes as sex toys (they are in a red light district, and I'm sure someone has tried it), yes I can see how nearly nude models would be a salient feature of a promotions strategy. As you said - context is everything.
I LOL'd. Repressed much?Your views are sexist and chauvinistic. They represent attitudes that are out of step with contemporary Australia. This isn't my opinion is a fact
Funny, this blog looks like it has just been started, and I find it funny that Catherine Deveny is bagging TR for blocking responses yet she does it on her own blog. And the leaked email, I have no idea if it's real or not, but Catherine could have just typed that in or worse, changed it to suit her needs. You bet you they did. And if you want to know why here's the back story: http://mzguided.com/.

... And in response to you lot who replied in this thread claiming that it was either tasteful or trouble about nothing, Let me explain it to you. Your opinion, is exactly that, your opinion; and you know how much its worth? Sweet fuck all. Your views are sexist and chauvinistic. They represent attitudes that are out of step with contemporary Australia. This isn't my opinion is a fact. A fact proved the groundswell of public anger which caused Simon and TR to eat this big hunk of humble pie. And FWIW this not a media stunt that will do any good at all. The adage, "any publicity is good publicity" does not ring true, and this is case in point.
Seriously people, 12 pages of comments on this?
Go ride your bikes.
Here here!

Don't blow into a conversation on a cycling forum and tell people their opinion isn't valid and they should ride their bikes. A, it's a fucking forum to discuss topics relating to our scene and B; you look like a total spoonhead by posting in a thread saying we should get out and ride our bikes. Irony much?+1 LBS f**ked up a promo get over it...

I guess the other end of the spectrum is Muslim culture where women showing their hair (and sometime faces) is considered sexual. Here in Australia we're all too ready to whinge about how Muslim men must have no self control if they need to cover their women to remove any temptation - but really is it that different to getting all offended about seeing women dressed in paint? The idea of being 'dressed' is a matter of perception and it's perfectly valid to argue that being covered in paint is just as 'dressed' as being covered in lycra. In our australian (americanised) culture people recognise nudity as sexual and I don't see a problem with that.
No one is saying it was porn, culturally significant or or any artist worth. it was inappropriate and appalling managedI guess the other end of the spectrum is Muslim culture where women showing their hair (and sometime faces) is considered sexual. I once attended a fashion show in Sydney where the (seemingly nude) models were 'dressed' in verbal descriptions of what they were wearing. The designer was making the point that being dressed can mean any number of things. People seemed to enjoy the show and there were no complaints.
Body painting has always been considered an artistic proposition; people who categorise it as pornography are being very conservative in the context of present day western culture.

and C: "When having a whinge about a local bike shop (distributor/importer etc) please leave the business name out of the discussion. In most cases it paints Rotorburn as a target for legal action, and since so many members insist on posting these threads we simply cannot moderate them on a case by case basis."Don't blow into a conversation on a cycling forum and tell people their opinion isn't valid and they should ride their bikes. I'm not sure there are 2 examples farther apart. On one side you have repression of women by men and on the other you have women using their sexuality for profit and influence. You could say example 1 causes example 2 by means of revolution over time. Personally, I find the enforced covering more offensive. Not saying I support tits out salespeople, but just saying.I guess the other end of the spectrum is Muslim culture where women showing their hair (and sometime faces) is considered sexual.
