I had hamstring ACL done this this year which took 5 months of recovery, but I'd consider the Lars next time as it takes only 6-8 weeks to recover fully....not sure of the the long term prognosis!!
Bite the Bullet
Mate, Brendan's a pro and had to ride the season out.......riding with a brace just means that your knee is less likely to collapse but it will wear away your meniscus which causes long term problems. Bite the bullet and have your ACL fixed with either a Lars or Hamstring operation.

No need for surgery as it's nearly impossible to tear/snap your ITB!!
invest in a foam roller and start self massage daily to release tension.
A mindset at the start as the pain is excruciating is `No Pain No Gain'
ACL recon and meniscectomy
