Having to defend analogue…

Some people just don't deserve bikes. I am currently enjoying a little waterfront coffee along a popular shared path. A lot of bikes and people enjoying a rare sunny Saturday...

....among the old people riding various eeeeebs emerges the clear king of boomer douches. This fellow cruises in on a norco range, more towards the top of the range than the bottom, with his similarly aged female associate on an old clunky piece of crap. His bike shows no signs of having gone off road in its life but of course has the chunky moto tyres on. The best part was that as they pull up for coffee he just leans it on a not very close by pole and walks into the cafe. He can't even see the bike from where he is unless he has magic eyes. I walk over to the bike and have a real good and very suspicious looking inspection of the bike and he doesn't even notice. Fortunately nobody steals the free range bike and when they are done enjoying coffee it is still waiting for him. But clearly a case of some people do not deserve to have nice things.

lol if you're ever wanting to experience ebike rage, there's the beach cycleway north of Wollongong. There's a free for all of dui bogans, school kids in uniform, chicks in bikinis, to old boomers that can't hold a licence for health reasons on throttle controlled bikes. Probably why riding an ebike to do runs on trails here hasn't gotten the haters like elsewhere.

Ok Just gotta a new E-mtb first one. First impressions after 3 rides. Yeah it's good but not that good as those many E-Mtbs told me you won't go back to riding your analogue bike after you got a an E-mtb umm yes I will. I think there is places to ride for the E-mtb and places to ride the analogue-mtb. I thought it was cheating on my first ride bit now I look to ride up those steep long technical uphills. I really don't like how the E motor stops at 25kmh( I do have a super enduro super heavy emtb) So my analogue is faster on the downs and probally flats.

Eeebs are great for exploring in the bush. You’ll never look at that old trail leading down a steep hill thinking “I don’t want to go down there as I might have to com back up that”
The big enduro Ebikes are definitely slower on the flats. Tyres they usually run make the biggest difference though. If I run XC tyres on my Levo SL, I can hold 28kph on the flats.
I still ride my Stumpjumper, just depends on what kind of ride I’m planning.

Yes Like Juggernaut ,Tipp Hills( like it won't take me 90 minutes to ride to the top on my analogue) and Zeehan. Yep I have grippy wet tyres at the moment when it warms up and dries out I will switch to ground control on the back Butcher on the front.

I remember thinking that too (the part about continuing to ride my normal bike). 12 months solid ebiking later it took a trip to Maydena to remind me so I sold the ebikes and haven't gone back......yet. I keep looking at the Heckler SL in that mustard colour 🤤

I think we are edging towards the tipping point where not many things are holding back from the majority being on eebs. A friend has Heckler SL and I ride Transition Relay. The 60nm is enough, the weight is almost light enough. I think somewhere around 17-18kg would be ideal for me if the extra is almost all down low. Obviously, you can get a bike to that weight but mine is 170/170 with 38's and a coil, even still mine is 20kg with pedals, and my friend's Heckler is 1/2 kilo lighter mostly due to built-in battery-saving frame weight I suspect. Price is still a huge barrier, especially at these weights. I kept my regular bike for about 18 months after getting an eeb. Rode it a handful of times but just wasn't as much fun in most scenarios ...so I moved it on with no regrets.
