So Zaf, what’s betterer about the Nic over the Effigear?

Regardless, we need more gearbox bikes.

Rear cassettes that are either 500 gms or $500, are only good business for the industry.

We’re paying.

Centralising and reducing unsprung mass makes a huge difference to bike handling. I did it with my GSXR750 track bike, moved the computer from the ducktail (bad) to the centre of the bike... way betterer. It was noticeable.

I’d love to ride gearbox.

I reckon/hope the success will happen for gearboxes after shifting is sorted with normal shifters, not gripshift.

I've got a Nicolai. You don't go out for lobster when you've got caviar at home.
Wtf? That’s the worst analogy I have ever heard. That’s the exact reason to go out so you can get something you don’t have. They are also two foods with a reputation of being exotic and expensive.
You could say why go out for a rake when you have a bbw at home. They are different things. :)

So it wasn't a bad analogy?

You made me google BBW...and it came up with porn and porn alone.

Same reason you'd buy a Korth over a MAC. It's not necessarily because it's more practical, but because it's infinitely more beautiful in the details.

But completely agree that its great for gearboxes that there's a bike that people like the look of and want.
Stop hating on the gripshift though, it's not even an issue, and the gearbox is faster and easier to shift than any other bike I've ever owned. You get caught once or twice in the first week not being able to shift because of pedal load, and it doesn't happen after that.
Defending gripshift style shifters is akin to defending Donald Trump.

Many of us are psychologically damaged from gripshift. Maybe there is a market for a light weight trigger shifter adapter box.

I rode for years on gripshift back in the 90s, I liked it. Took me a while to get used to triggers...

Gripshift is good, but the market being what it is the gearbox makers would do well to get them working with triggers. Even if it has to be electronic shifting.

Grip shift sucks unless you are a kid pretending to ride a motorbike. Aside from needing to move your hand out of position to shift there is the added bonus of gear bumping when the bike is going up or coming down. Sucks sucks sucks sucks.

That was my issue with them for the brief period I resorted to cheapie.

Stand to accelerate, clunk. Drop into anything, clunk.

I still think a quantum engineering leap, such as that to a gearbox, should be teamed up with a suitably modern shift mechanism, Di2.

I never did that either... I liked it, it felt intuitive and natural and always worked well. Being able to up or downshift all of the gears in one hit was awesome - i hated the triggers for ages having to click click click through the gears..
