MTB shoes

I prefer the following characteristics in an MTB shoe

  • When clipped I want max stiffness for power transmission and improved platform on the pedals

  • When clipped I want more stiffness then a flat shoe, but I’m not a roadie.

  • When on flats I prefer stiffness to grip, but grip is still important. Walking is for whimps

  • When on Flats I prefer max grip, but prefer to be able to walk when not pedalling.

  • When on Flats I want max grip and moderate stiffness. Goldilocks

  • I don’t wear shoes, the leather soles of my feet grip nice

I picked up these leatt shoes super cheap around Christmas. I like the red but the tan colour on the sole is pretty dorky. First time in them today and I was pretty pleased. Sole really grabs the pedals! Inside was pretty supportive, though I would have liked some higher arches (my arches are very high though). Width wasn't too bad. My foot was squished a little at the ball, but it wasn't the end of the world. I grabbed 10.5US and have the laces blown out. I expect the chassis of the shoe will stretch. I'll probably run these into the ground for a while.

Have you ever crashed and ended up with no shoes on :p tighten the laces... I reckon my uggies have more chance in a crash.

Once...it was a pretty big crash when I lived in Perth that I documented on here at the time. Basically I nose cased on the second smallest dirt jump at a skate park and really ate shit! 1 shoe went flying.

I wear them loose so the shoe can stretch out for my feet. They are shaped like a flipper - fairly normal width at the heel, but quite wide across the ball. Once they stretch out a bit they'll get tightened. Until then it would be uncomfortable to do them up like a normal person.

He ties his shoes the same as my 5 year old.

Your 5 year old can tie a reef knot? Bravo!

Here you go @ozzybmx are these done up better? The unparalleled rubbers have stretched out nice for my trotters.

And by complete coincidence I am wearing the gloves from that fateful day my shoe came off...this is the glove that stayed on! The damn things didn't do much! Tore up my hands and busted the scaphoid.

I've been putting this lacing system to the test, and currently no show has come off. I'll have to try and tweak this out further.

I could probably also try and look less like I'm trying to shit on my bike!

You could buy a Pole Voima and have the bike do it for you.

Checked out a pair of these at the local store today, seemed pretty light for flats, Canvas Models being only $20 less probably better off going for the top model.
$180 for the Canvas, $200 for the full specc'd
Decent colourways, width looked okay. Will await some reviews before tempting the wallet but being locally stocked is a great thing as the staff mentioned it should be in for some good seasonal discounts along with the rest of the fox gear.

They look good. Hopefully with a bit of time there'll be some good sale prices as you say, hard to justify +$60 over the 2FO for the boa model. That said, my 2FOs have a couple of fit niggles that annoy me at times that these might avoid..
But, but, the Marketing dude has gone all in. Do the right thing and buy something at full RRP so he can see at least out the next quarter or two as the honcho of awesome messages to the unwashed masses. I do wish 'synergy' was in there.

I have lost several fingers off my gloves before. does that count?

I had a huge crash at Narrabeen quite a few years ago. I was riding like shit all day and decided I needed to nudge one of the drops a little harder to push myself out of the Jerry zone...I nudged too hard! Pulled to the left on lift off and landed in the rough then hit a tree at warp speed. I went OTB on the rocks and as I went over I activated my dropper, taking a seat to the balls. Then the bike landed on me as I rag dolled down the run out. Winded, dizzy as fuck, verge of unconsciousness, skin off, torn jersey, cracked helmet, and where the fuck is my glove? Oh I see it...it was still clutching the grip! I dragged my arse to the side of the trail and lay down for a little while.

Later that night while having dinner at a near by Thai restaurant my neck popped loud enough for my companions to hear it. I felt slightly less twisted up after that.

What grip and glove combo? That would make great marketing
