MTB shoes

I prefer the following characteristics in an MTB shoe

  • When clipped I want max stiffness for power transmission and improved platform on the pedals

  • When clipped I want more stiffness then a flat shoe, but I’m not a roadie.

  • When on flats I prefer stiffness to grip, but grip is still important. Walking is for whimps

  • When on Flats I prefer max grip, but prefer to be able to walk when not pedalling.

  • When on Flats I want max grip and moderate stiffness. Goldilocks

  • I don’t wear shoes, the leather soles of my feet grip nice

Yeah the Google clickbait shit includes ebay, CRC , Wiggle , MBDirect, its such a blatant time waster.
Not sure how many get sucked in but makes me more determined .

The wiggle/crc trick that shits me is when I search for a specific it (say a sram shifter) and I get a link to their site and a good price, quickly forgetting the SRAM geoblock I follow the link and of course it just takes me to their home page advertising sales. Oh and I also hate that they continue to list/advertise sold or items...often even many years after the item has ceased to be available. Fuck those arseholes.

Yep old stuff years too late.
Anyway enjoying clips and stiff shoes lately got some used Sidis.
Dont have the power to pedal flat pedals at slow speeds in technical stuff.

My freeriders currently have some good ventilation from the sole, so time for some new shoes. I have a pair of newer post-adidas five tens and I rode them last week and never felt really comfortable with them. So thought I might try something new. Has anyone tried ride concepts? Northwave also seem to get decent reviews?

Same problem since they went to Adidas they have become more narrow and not great for my duck wide feet.

Now using Shimano gr7 nice and wide very comfy.

I got these same shoes yesterday- was worried as traditionally Shimano shoes end up hurting my little toes (fucked up feet) - used these for 3hrs today no issues and solid as on the pedal.
Usually only specialized fits me so pretty happy to get these cheaper and working great.

My Shimanos fit well but the sole was always a bit shit compared to Five Tens.

I'm trying on some Specialized this week (size 48). If they're a touch too small, they do a size 49 but I'll have to wait for them to come back in stock.

Shimano ME702 still the best clipless shoes going around. Mine are almost dead and the new/current ones don't look much different?

Can confirm that Specialized 2FO are excellent, I'm just on my second pair now.

I used the first pair for hiking and holidaying too.

Agree with Hambo. The 2FOs are great

Not with hiking and holidaying though, too stiff for that!

Can confirm the 2FO roost have amazing grip.

They are just too narrow. I had to go up US size +1.5 and really crank the laces down to stop my foot sliding forward.

There is also hardly any padding on the tongue so unless you have cankles, the hard edge/corner of the sides will dig into your ankle bone.

Still rode them for ages until the soles were shredded.

Do you have the version with the elastic strap across the top of the tongue to keep your laces secured? I think the tongue is more comfy than v1.0.

CrankBrothers Mallet for those clipped in.

I've owned a lot of shoes and these are the best ever by a mile. Light, comfy, great wearing, wide, good toe box, rearward cleat position and stiff when riding but used them on 2 bikepacking trips as my riding shoes and night time shoes, like walking in skate shoes and the cleat is recessed so no tap dancing.

No idea how the sole is for flatties.

On my second pair as they were on special, the original pair are still decent too.

If you watched the Leogang DH race at the weekend, looked half the riders down the hill were wearing CB shoes of one guise or another.

Does anyone know of a honey hole that will post half sizes in 2FO shoes to Australia? PM me please.

The USA seems to be the only place I've seen that does. 44 is a titch small, and 45 is a little bit roomy.
#$%#$% geo-blocking!
2FO DH clip shoes are on special in NZ - -$160ish, but full price here, FFS.

MyUS will shit on you with delivery costs. I ended up buying a half price pair from the US but ended up paying the Australian full price!

I did get a size 48 in green though which inexplicably isn't available in Australia.

direct from Specialized Aus:

Thanks for contacting Specialized Australia.

Specialized has a very wide range of products and as much as we try and carry as many items in the global line as possible, some products naturally don't make the Australian line.

We're unable to ship goods between markets, and sales are run at a market level so these do not carry over between markets either.

Great...
maximum profits, minimum fucks given.

As an aside, it shits me to tears that people/companies use language like this: some products naturally don't make the Australian line.

There is nothing natural about it. It's a business decision.

Naturally, water flows down hill. Due to a cost benefit analysis, some specialised products don't get shipped to Australia.
