Done well there's also some benefits for protecting the brake hose & connection as it's protected by the frame.I always thought it was more about letting them keep weight down and tune flex by having thinner seat stays and putting braking forces into the chain stay which is usually bulky anyway for power transfer (esp. on roadies). Theoretically anyway..

The page I linked to had something similar. But the true horror is their fucked up frames speced with zeebs and 38s.
I know a guy who has a bike very similar to this on order. He has a prosthetic leg and can't spin but can step, so that what these bikes are for. It's still bloody hideous though.
