Was pulling into a carpark. There were 2 carparks next to each other. Some guy was blocking one of the driveways so I pulled into the one he wasn't blocking and he reversed into me.
Haha at first I was thinking you'd just put some massive flares on it...

Engine swap will require lots of details. Apart from fitting the new engine in, it will weight a lot more so expect to have to get a new front suspension set up. And it will drink a lot faster, so you will need new fuel pump, and it will blow out a lot harder, so new exhausts will be needed. I know doing the actual swap in old chevrolets are relatively easy for all its worth.

You will run into legal issues regarding the 10" fronts and 12" rears. Unless you find a set of wheels with crazy offset, you will need wheel spacers which aren't legal. You can't alter the wheel track by more than 25mm total and you can't run tires more than 30% wider than original. I checked this out with the RTA (its in VSB 14). The most frustrating bit is if you do choose to just do it, it will actually void insurance aswell.

Power windows can be retrofitted, there are both specific and universal kits around.

Thanks Wes. Yeah if this happens it would be getting all new springs, dampers, bars etc. As for exhausts, most likely open headers or straight through dumps at the diff.
But wiring, mounts, fuel system shouldn't be frightfully hard to do properly? I'm more concerned with steering clearances, that sort of thing.

15x12" -12 is the least crazy in the range I'm looking at (Pro-comp model 52 steels). I'm not really concerned about track regulations or spacer legality to be honest, but would like to keep the wheels inside the bodywork (don't mind rolling/pulling/pumping stock metal though).

i cant see you having too many troubles fitting a v8 to a hq, they came out with.
you can fit any engine really, but a 308 or 253 holden v8 should fit in like it was made for it, it was afterall

All the extras aren't hard to do, just suprisingly costly. You kind of get nickled and dimed to death-still, a complete package would be well worth it by the end. Wiring isn't to bad, fuel is easier. Maybe consider swapping to an electric pump-the previous owner of my car did an engine swap and for simplicity swapped to an electric pump. frees up a bit of space and saves dicking around with clearances. It sits inline just outside the fuel tank. If the engine mount is the same it should be relatively nice to do as the chassis was the same dimensions accross all models-V6, V8 etc. Out of interest, would you do the work yourself or have it done somewhere? It sounds like you've thought the whole process through.

If the legality isn't a concern the whole process becomes easier. I have no idea regarding clearances for that model. When I ordered new wheels I spent a lot of time with my car on stands measuring everything. If you are willing to roll the sheetmetal there isn't much you couldn't shoehorn in.

I should be able to do most of the work myself, I've done a few engine swaps and things on Jap cars now. Wiring I don't do, nor diffs, but thats about it, just pay someone to do that stuff.

Right now I don't have the car but I'm sussing out if I can do what I'd like to, basically. I think its time for a loud, obnoxious old school V8 project before it can no longer be done.

Ok, so my amp decided to hold it's own bonfire and almost burn down my car the other day, so im in need of a new amp.

im currently runnign this sub It's nothing flash but get's the job done.

The amp i had was a 400W clarion, and i got it for a very good price.

Now my question is what else is out there and cheap? Any un-mainstream brands that i should be looking for?

Thanks.

I've just spent 10 hours tearing my car apart funnelling probably close to 100feet of cable through my car and its still not finished. All of my door trims are still off, i've got cables coming out of my ears in the backseat and my whole middle column is still all over the place. Not to mention the 100 bolts and bits and pieces i've got in bags that im still unsure as to where they all go back. And even when its done i doubt ill be happy with how some of the cables are routed. Im going to cry when i get this done.

Note to self ~ Never do an audio install again....

Want some knowledge in return. Must be some old Holden fans on here?

HQ Holden utes. Looking at swapping my bunky R31 wagon for one. Need to know some things...

-Known issues to look out for, rust and chassis issues I guess? where?

-How hard is V8 swap into 6 cylinder one?

-Can I fit 15x10" fronts and 15x12" rear wheels?

-Is it possible to retrofit power windows? Statesman door trims perhaps?
Ha I thought your account had been hacked, sorry I know virtually nothing about them but this page is worth a look- http://www.rodshop.com.au/holden/hq-wb.htm
I know an RB30 would seem wrong but it would be fun and economical

Rust in HQ/J/X/Z series utes is all the normal places, bottoms of doors, sills and around the glass depending on where it has been. I had a HJ 173ci panel van that was 3 feet deep in water during some floods and it still started ok. Mud in distributor was the only drama.

Gert used to a complete lack of little comforts though. No AC, no temp gauge, probably no power steering, if it has discs on the front you are lucky. But more than enough room in the engine bay to swing a handful of cats.

lol CAMS approved..
its a freaking fire extenguisher..
Egg-zachery, it was intended to put a fire in my amp (which being a cheap ebay amp was likely to, and did end up melting) which would likely be some smoldering wires... Didn't need to be anything special.

on note of fire extinguishers, both my cars have them inside, you never know when you might need one, that and a first aid kit!
its like 50 bucks all up, which one day could make a difference!

even if your cars not modified, i dont see why fire extinguishers are not mandatory in cars/bikes, have to have one a boat by law.

323e or 323i?

If you're looking at a 323e, buy a 318i or 325i instead. The inability to rev past 5000 is frustrating, given the engine is designed for economy.

Best tip would be to get lots of receipts and history with any car, preferably from a specialist. A mate has a few E30s (an M3 converted to RHD and a 325is), and anything that can go wrong will go wrong. So, if you at least have invoices, you will know what has been recently repaired and can bank on other things going wrong.

Awesome cars though, and they look sweet with BBS DTM replica wheels... Especially in two door...

My parents sold their E46 318i for $10k in good condition with RWC. Not sure why an E30 would be worth anymore than $3000 unless its an M3.

Where the fuck are you meant to put an extinguisher on a bike?
