Tell me about riding in Bright

To me the obvious next choice would be a machine made but steepish track down from the top of Bright to run into Hero. It would need berms , excellent drainage and care to keep the rocks stable.
The existing stuff eg Elevation is unsustainable for mass usage/shuttling as its just a raw track .

Today Mystic is closed. Shuttles are cancelled.
Shame bluedirt didn't let me know before hand (and still haven't contacted me) and could have saved me 6.5 hour drive from Sydney.

Fucking hate shit customer service.

Hey JTMofo,
Sorry to hear you weren't happy with our customer service when we had to cancel the shuttles due to extreme fire danger. Unfortunately we do not make the call on whether the park is open or closed, the land managers do. We notify all booked riders via email and text message the second we find out about closure which is around 6pm most nights and then continue to post publicly on facebook whilst trying to find an alternative location, flipping all resources and staff at the last minute so that you have somewhere to shuttle the next day. If we could have given you 6.5hrs more notice we would of, trust me.
I'm sorry, we did everything we could contacting everyone immediately which also included a phone call to yourself after you took to social media with your dislike. I hope you managed to get some good riding in during your stay and we appreciate your patience while we work through these restrictions. Cheers Aaron

JTmofo at least they apologised and you presumably rode Falls which is pretty good and cooler .
I rode Bright about 2 weeks ago and there is no breeze thru the pine trees, hot as hell and a bad place to be if a fire starts .

As long as it's clear that extreme fire danger days will close the facilities, it's up to the end user to take this into account.

Hi Aaron,

Thank for your reply. In fairness, I admitted that you guys did come good in putting on alternative arrangements. My main gripe was that the local bike shop were able to tell me that the Mystic was closed shortly after lunch time. I recieved a phone call at 6.30 ish to confirm the same from Blue Dirt after unanswered calls to you and a social media post.

I understand that Blue dirt are dependant on the local park owners to update them on closures, but a heads up that there might be a cloure would have been helpful/appreciated.

I camped in Bright, if I had have know earlier that Mystic was closed, I would have packed up and camped at Mt Beauty or Falls.

Again, i'm very grateful that I was able to ride both Beauty and Falls, and I'm sorry that my social media post upset you. Reality is, you supply a paid service. Criticism on social media is always going to exist for any paid service provider that holds a strong social media presence.
I'm a resonable person, and I admit that you did come good. I will use your service again.

Unfortunately thats business, I work hard for my money and expect premium service when I pay for a premium service. All's well that ends well in my mind.

Heading to Bright in a few weeks, the weekend of the 16th and 17th does anyone recommend Bright or Falls?
Considering the fire dangers at the moment.
Just as we will have a few of us in tow, not sure who is going to be riding but maybe a fairly new rider to on a hard tail.
I have ridden the Hero trail a few years ago when I had a few hours to stop in Bright, but this will be a full day on the bikes.
Recommended trails?

If it is cool = Bright . Hero is very rocky at the moment you need a bike w big tyres and travel.
If it is hot = Falls .
Also Falls IMHO has a bigger variety and better graded to different rider levels.

I however am very normal. Trust me.

Can you do a day at falls, and the following day at bright - best of both worlds? Falls is about an hours drive from bright from memory.
Brights picks would be Down DJ or Shred Kellys for flowing fun, or elevation / AM (it used to be called) for a more raw falling off the hill feel.
Falls, flowtown is pretty nice, vortex for something sedate but technical, or the new trail from the top, can't remember its name.

The facebook comments have been a great source of entertainment for the past 24 hours.

Pretty interesting development and the lack of information to accompany the announcement has been disturbing.

Not great? Bright is awesome?
Yeah, personal opinion. I haven't been there since Shred Kelly was built but been there 3 times and last time was ~18 months ago. We did 10 shuttles on the last visit and rode pretty much every trail in the park.
The area is unreal and the town is awesome, don't reckon we'll be heading back anytime soon with that silly pricing. Great decision Mystic.

Yeah EAD alright...

I love riding in bright and have ridden there for years, spent loads of money in the bike shops and on accommodation even use the shuttle service occasionally too but putting a price on driving up a road is a joke.
Happy to pay an annual club fee similar to the hang gliding club which only charge 85 a year and part of that covers ongoing maintenance of the road.

They haven't really thought it out and there are way too many unanswered questions. Blue Dirt are rubbing there grubby hands together in anticipation..

It's a shame. But there are plenty of other places to ride...

certainly not worth $77/$132 a day to drive your own car up.
Windsurfing part 2. My 2c is maybe they are pitching this at higher volume shuttlers rather than the family. What this means is that it is economically unviable to shuttle less than 4 bikes at a time or do low volume shuttles (i.e. 3-4 runs a day) meaning less overall traffic - their objective. As regular bloke though, it might make sense to get there early, run some private shuttles at $5 a pop ($20 per run) and then spend the lazy afternoon doing laps. At least that's fuel money for the long trip from Melbourne.

Going to borrow the old mans 7 seater Kluger and strap 2 bike racks on roof and add a 4 bike hitch carrier next bright trip haha. Should be able to easily shuttle 6 at a time.

Families are what the town tries to attract. The families are the money spenders and the MTBers of the future, entertaining kids for a day is an expensive hobby. Families come in with a load of kids, bikes, eat ice cream, eat out, rent a house, bring their caravan, visit the sights, ride the rail trail, play in the waterpark while mum and dad grab beer or 2 at the Bright Brewery ect... If the kids aren't happy, Mum is not happy and people will not come and visit, period.
