Exactly. I don’t think it will make any difference, but it might and it cant hurt. Just seems to be reinstating Atsic with more permanence from what I can tell. Sure that was a bit of an argumentative clusterfuck in the end, but it’s abolition was a dick move (yet another one…) by Howard.

Plus it pisses off the so called “conservatives”, so that’s a win all on its own.
Whilst Howard was a chunt for abolishing ATSIC, don't forgot that he was emboldened to do so thanks to that shitstain Latham stating that if Labour won 2004 he'd do the same.

Back on the voice to parliament, I don't think anyone can honestly say that it's a perfect solution. The biggest positive for me is the fact that by having the voice, it will be independent from government thus avoiding many of the issues that have plagued the various indigenous bodies in terms of representation of first nations issues

Especially the no-nz-snow-for-poods agenda

Those mother fuckers have been plaguing my arse for a while! I think a custom snowboard is going to solve the problem.

It's a step in the right direction and a yes vote should be a no brainer for all but the most out of date minds.

I think the big mining interests like Jabba and Gina, Rio Tinto, Santos and BHP are shitting themselves that they might actually have to pay proper royalties to the traditional owners, and also not fuck up their ancient cultural sites, and acutally consult with them & treat them with respect.
That would be a refreshing change for the better.
While they are at it, the mining corps can pay proper tax, and a decent resource tax, so Australia isn't just giving away our mineral wealth for cents on the dollar, FFS.
The two big ones (Rio/BHP) came out in support of the voice though? Even donated to the yes campaign. That’s a good start.

The problem is we have a LOT of out of date minds here in Australia

If you want an insight into the level of cooked we're at, check out the aec bookface page.

Here's a good thread for your viewing pleasure...

Did Malcom Turnbull just give the referendum the kiss of death moving to support it?
He already has one referendum loss under his belt.

Red yellow and blackwashing?

Huzzah, somewhere we can dump this tax credit cash that we needed to spend somewhere!
The local footy team wasn't up to laundering that amount of $

The cynic in me is suspicious, for sure. But big miners also do a lot of consultation and work with traditional owners and communities in remote areas. I’d expect there’s plenty of genuine support as well.

Because it's mandated under their licence and the act

As Australia's richest and therefore smartest man, clearly he should know what's best?

Wow that Facebook thread hurts. So many people being deliberately disingenious in their arguments, most of whom probably didn't have any issue with it in 1999. But then, the Interwebs wasn't the horrible trash-hole back then that it is now.
