Yes, that is part of it. Many inherited businesses and were able to grow from there (still screwing over people where possible). Is it a mentality that is ingrained/ learned that they can't shake?

True. I guess most decent people decide to step back from their businesses once it reaches a certain size that they can buy or do anything they want. A higher portion of those that keep working and pushing larger are probably ego driven and have little care for others / sociopathic.

It's not just having money, but the status and often power & influence that can come with that can be addictive, IMO.

I think there are some people who just love the work and the money is not really a means of score keeping and just a tool to get more things done. I'd put Musk in that camp, the money is just a tool to get the next thing going - he doesn't spend it on flashy stuff (the things he thinks are worth investing money into is the other thread...).

Not always chunts though, some are just driven people who love what they do. Probably though a point where even just nerdy workaholics reach a point where they trip over into being the egomaniac....
