Well, I've been holding off saying it but yeah, get rid of it. It's got some steeper parts but the flat parts fucked it. It made good riders look like total squids and didn't have the entertaining appeal of a tough section you had to ride at speed, it was just a bog hole. Tracks evolve though, that wasn't that chaotic on day one but it needs a lot of work to make it interesting.

This is a good read from Drit magazine. It throws some weight in each direction for the case of the 29er wheel and asks are we seeing the quickest riders or the quickest bikes on the podium: https://dirtmountainbike.com/features/unfair-advantage.html
What I'm hearing is that you say the track was changed to suit bigger wheels.....just sayin.

Is there any clear video of Aaron Gwin's fuckup down the bottom that cost him at least second, and possibly first place? Never have I seen a man so dirty on himself after a race.
Not that's I've seen, just him coming out of the corner looking unclipped, and no real word about what happened.

I saw a discussion on one of the big sites about having a 29 and 27.5 class separate.
I want a 26" class. Finally my shot at a WC win.

Yeah, think that classes based on wheel sizes are fair enough (incl. 26). Be good to see them implemented at local/state (and national?) races as it would level out the playing field and would probably result in less uptake from the average weekend warrior who would otherwise have to shell out thousands of dollars on a 29er DH bike just to be competitive.

FFS, everyone had to ride the same track! Some fucked up, some didn't. Same shit happens every race.

As far as wheel size goes, who really gives a toss? When we went from 26 to 27.5, there wasn't this hysteria, the only reason peeps are arcing up is the 29er size. Easy target given historic reactions to 29ers since their inception.

Yeah nah. There's already a single crown/shorter travel class in interstate DH isn't there?
Thats one thing, but really can't support wheel size categories. I was as horrified as anyone by the notion of 29" DH this year, and while 2 good races don't mean everything, they certainly haven't struggled, and will almost certainly dominate the podiums for years to come, with ever big team bound to be rushing to get theirs running.

You wouldn't say that if all the manufacturers moved xc to 25" wheels and only sold that....
You'd be right...same goes if they decided 32" was a thing for XC. But that wouldn't stop me enjoying riding XC on whatever I could find in the dumpster dive of history. XC just isn't that demanding or specialised in terms of wheel size. Even Bike Friday reckons you can XC on one of their 20" wheeled bikes...I've no reason to doubt them

Frankly, if it gets a nutter down some insane piece of rock and mud strewn track at a speed close to sound whilst cutting the laws of physics fine in an entertaining and breathtaking fashion then I care not whether they do it on 20", 26", 27.5", 28", 28.5" or 29". Just as long as they do it. I can't do it so someone else has to pony up!

There was pushback with the transition from 26 to 27.5. Sam Hill, among others, was pretty outspoken about it. The difference was, IIRC, the teams had the offseason to get their bikes 650b ready. Once everyone was on 650b, any advantage was lost. There wasn't really any point to it but it sure as hell helped the bike industry sell bikes...

Bit different to this year as only some of the bigger teams have access to 29er DH bikes, which has created an uneven playing field. Really, the UCI should've brought in some regulations on wheel size.

Good to see some of the pro riders being vocal about it:
