Any Zwifters out there?

Unlocked

Got the plain grey kit, used 2 coffee breaks, 1st for a piss and 2nd for a water refill so did about 104 to make up for the time off.

Switched between Miguel that was around Z3-4 and Maria that was around Z2-3. Both flattish pace partner routes.

I think I will schedule this one in for Sept, it will line up nicely with my TdK commitment

will defo take me longer, I'll be lucky to match it with Bernie for the duration

Was looking for when the Academy races become available. Was hoping for a pro contract going to complete it for a workout set to keep me motivated and to collect the bike paintwork.

Found this from the semipro bloke who coaches ZA riders 🤣

hi, can you estimate in what range we can expect the power outputs (e.g. 30s, 1min, 5min, 20min) of the top riders in this academy? Does Zwift publishes the results? thank you

10 seconds at 15.93 to 14.43 w/kg
5 minutes at 7.16 to 6.88 w/kg
1 minute at 10.17 to 9.40 w/kg
20 minutes at 6.28 to 6.03 w/kg
20 minutes at 5.5 to 5.8 w/kg after 3000 kJ
5 minutes at 6.8 w/kg after 3000 kJ
4 hours at 4 w/kg with <5% HR Drift
6.5 hours at 3.3 w/kg with <5% HR Drift

Does it specify a maximum wattage mixmaster I can use?

Depends how pro you want to be, gonna need at least a 250w head start.

They are all a laugh but 6.5hrs at a constant 300w, that would get me up nearly 7 x Alpe du Zwift in 57 minute ascents. Nearly an Everest. Never mind the 5% HR drift.

I can assure you, I will never mind the 5% HR drift while everesting.

I would be fine with a 15amp powerpoint.

At 240v, 15A will give you 3.6kW... yeah that would cover it.

Was going to tell you how long that would take me at 88kg to do the Alpe, using the Alpe calculator but its taking the piss ;)

Sooooo what's a cost effective indoor training setup including a bike? Would I need Zwift or can you get free cycling apps to relieve the boredom?

Do you not have an old roadie ? You dont need wheels or even brakes.

Jet Black Volt V2 for $600 and a decent computer to run MyWhoosh for free.

I had to give the roadie back, it was also a touch too small for me :(

You can use your mtb on a wheel off trainer. Main caveats being; taking it off and on repeatedly would get old very quickly; and you will tend to run out of top end gears rather rapidly.

I've never had anything but the defy on there but the thought of indexing gears for the trainer cassette then the riding cassette would make think twice about doing a quick Zwift.

Check the local buy pages, see if you can grab a cheapie. Mine's an old Defy rim brake bike and has 9sp DuraAce on it, old as... with a ZTTO cassette.

That's a good deal on that trainer, if you have the cash, grab it and use a MTB in the mean time.

So easy to just think... hmmmm, I'll do a trainer ride and 3 minutes later, you're pedalling.

@Jabubu the bike doesn't have to be pretty, at your height you'll be needing a 62cm frame or there abouts. You can stick a 130mm stem and a long lay back post to get the right position. Its not like it will need to ride well outside. Just have working gears.
Just checked FB, there's a few for <$150 in Cairns.

I think 60cm+ would be ideal, my old Scott Speedster was 58cm and it never felt right even though I did a lot of km on it.

My preference is for a gravel or endurance bike, I do like the idea of actually being outside, even in the Cairns climate!

Not sure on size but if you don't mind using it as a trainer only bike, one might be workable, toss them a lowball too.
