your ride looks great

yeah been about 4 weeks now on the BB and about 7 weeks on the homebrew chainrings
LT Bikes were great to deal with, took 1 week for them to make it and 1 week in the mail to get it
so 2 weeks from order to the door is awesome if you ask me :D
Frame, freight and pay pal fee was $480usd
well done - hope it rides great too.

... hell might give my eyes a rest from the Giantspecialised new world order domination. For me l will stick with a brand with a reputation for quality, good value for money, that rides well, that fits, is not disposable and has a solid commitment to CS (where it is made is not important). ....

Bag Giant and Specialized, and then commit to sticking with a brand with a reputation for quality and CS... hmmm this could be a slight contradiction.

You make some good points John but you can't beat Giant for value or Specialized for customer service, IMHO. Then again your experience with Giant or the big "S" might be different to mine.

Not bagging the big players just alittle tired of the overexposure and over zealous marketing of those brands. Ridden both and while they dont do it for me (or my eyes - those silver and blue Giants in particular) Giant certainly pack alot into their price range and can see why they are so appealing to the masses. You cant be the biggest brands in the world without some sense of CS. My comments on those companies was from a pure aesthetic and exposure perspective. I have owned two Spech bikes in the past, probably wouldnt again but thats cool. Will not comment on either brands CS or my experiences. There are some poorly supported boutique brands out there.
Good story - I sold a frame some five years ago to a guy in Woolongong. I had only owned it for a few weeks and decided a 26er race HT was not for me. About three months ago he contacted me to ask if l had receipts as it had developed a crack. I got his LBS to contact the distributor who contacted my LBS to confirm l had brought it from them and then they replaced the frame FOC - second owner, five years old and no receipt (just confirmation of sale) - now that is CS. Go YETI.
No harm meant

Who is the company, how much for the frame inc postage, that frame in the UD matt carbon looks great.
Cheers in advance
look back a bit - have put the ebay link on this thread - go onto ebay usa then search 'frames' with 'worldwide' selected. I had to wait a bit for 29ers to come up though. It was under $600 posted including headset and 2 spare rear mech hangers - I got those in case I need one in 3 years and cannot find one that fits. The headset and head tube are for a tapered steerer.

My carbon 29er has just arrived from Hongfu. It came to $488.00 which included a headset and postage. This is the largest size on offer (21") and comes in at a little over 1350 grams on the lab scales at work. I'll post more pics and final weight when it's completeHongfu.jpgHongfu weight.jpg

It tool around 4 weeks from ordering to ship the frame, and 6 days to arrive when it was sent. It does depend what they have in stock and when the next manufacturing run is - they may have frames available now in some sizes. "Jenny" is good to deal with, and they do take PayPal, which is handy.

Here's a 29er frame that Greg from TWE is doing, comes with headset and has full internal cabling including brake lines. Not sure how much he is asking. It's made by the same factory that make BH bikes and Wheeler so give him a call if your interested

not too sure, I havent had a close look at the two side by side, I didnt think the Scott frame was curved down near the BB

The Scott has a chainstay brake mount as well, albeit differently designed. Also the Scott's downtube is shaped to allow for a direct mount front derailleur.

It looks to me like the TWE frame is coming out of the axman factory:

Not making any assertions as to the quality of the frame as a result as I have no experience with them (that I know of...) but that certainly looks to be the same frame.

Yep your right I forgot to mention that in my first post. Most of the frames Greg gets are from axman. My road bike is a axman frame its super stiff and at 7kgs on the nose im quite happy with it.

Thanks for keeping the posts coming, I'm learning a lot and it's nice to see some folks willing to take the plunge. That TWE frame looks like someone marketing one of the frames from Asia with a local point of sale. Curious to see that Hong Fu frame in person, I hope the poster is in Melbourne.

I know its not a 29er but here is my Chinarello carbon roadie built up.

100_6375.jpg

The issues I faced are:
  • Downtube barrel adjusters thread had to be tapped out.
  • Looks like rear derailleur hanger has to be replaced, inferior metal on this item. Pinarello one will be required to bend further, so gears can change crisply.
  • Factory sent slightly wrong colour - white bits were supposed to be silver.
  • Headset supplied had a steel steerer top cap, needed to replace with a carbon one.
  • Rear brake hole was drilled through, just had to get a longer sleeve bolt.
An excellent result I reckon.:)
