Vikings CX race in Canberra

So Cx is getting off the ground in Canberra, Vikings ran a great race on the weekend, and there is talk of getting a series happening here in Canberra. Watch out for the next "training race" somewhere, and sometime within the next five weeks cheers Jack

This sounds great, I'm from Melbourne but live in canberra at the moment. I've raced cx in Melbourne (dirty deeds) and Sweden (cx cupen 2012). My cross bike (SS) is in Melbourne though so I'll be in the open category if there is one.

At the last Vikings one what was the vibe like? Lots of heckling, handups and shenanigans or more serious?

The vikings race was laid back and relaxed. It was well run and the vibe was good. The "training" race on the 15th September will be very relaxed, it will be on in the morning meeting arond 9:30 and racing around 10:00. Would be good to see you there. This is a different series of races to Vikings, but we are planning on getting together in the future. Cheers Jack

A great weekend of racing at the National CX champs - plenty of mud and lots of people in the pain cave (including myself).

With all the mud, there was bound to be a few bingles - here is one of them from the Women's Masters race. Thankfully she was uninjured - just rather muddy!

NSW State Champs

September 22 will be the NSW cyclocross State champs - first ever.
This will be awesome and will be race at Lagoon Park, Manly Beach. Thats right, freakin Manly Beach!
Because CX is in its infancy in Australia, you will be permitted to ride any bike you like as long as it has 2 working brakes.

So why not get in on the fun? you may end up being crowned state champ.

Entry info can be found at http://mwmtb.com/wp/2013nswcxchamps/

That link is looks like it's been hacked Sean. The 22nd clashes with WSMTB club round. I take it racing is in the morning?

Brief report of the day up on Bike Radar
http://www.bikeradar.com/au/road/news/article/manly-bike-life-festival-fast-and-fun-38490/

Very exciting racing first up with the under 19 boys, with Guy Frail and Tom Green staying together the whole race, finishing in a sprint with half a wheel between them.

Then in the Mens races a Group of 5 had formed with Sid Taberlay, Nick Both, Garry Milburn, Oli Whalley and Carl Fokkema (Masters 1,2) riding together for about half the race before punctures first saw Oli and the Garry loose touch, (Garry had a particularly sloppy wheel change so lost a lot of time). Carl moved to the front for a little while until with 3 laps to go Nick lit it up and broke the group apart, Garry was chasing hard and eventually hauled in first Carl, almost catching Sid with 3 laps to go.

Canberra CX Sunday 17th November

:Banane48:Sunday 17th, yes that's right this weekend coming. Canberra CX will be at Stirling Park, parking at the top of Fitzgerald street behind the Canberra Mosque. Meet 9:00, race 9:30. This is a popular CX track, with grass, single track, fire roads and a wee interesting hill. The race will start at the top of the hill behind the Fitzgerald Street carpark. Conditions are looking very good for the race. If you don't have a CX bike bring whatever you have. No charge, we are covering the costs to boost CX in the ACT. Don't just talk about it get out there this week and do it, cheers Jack:yell:
