i have a 2007 17" MacBook Pro i'm thinking of selling to buy a new 24" iMac.

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz, 2GB RAM, hard drive is 112GB i think.
absolutely immaculate, not a scratch on it, it's left my desk no more then 6 times and i've owned it from new, it's got the Apple 3 year extended warranty with 12 months left and i've NEVER had a problem with it, ever! i keep it cleaner then a hospitals kitchen and never throw it around.

what ball park figure should i be trying to sell it for? going by eBay i'm thinking $2,000+ would that be realistic?

the iMac i'd go for would be the 24" Display, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 640GB HD, 8x Dual Layer SuperDrive, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M shared 256MB. i'm a photographer and don't actually need the portability of the laptop and would prefer a larger screen for Photoshop editing.

cheers!

How much are you paying for the iMac? 2000 sound's alright, but if you are putting it on eBay, good luck, I got this 24" G5 iMac for 600 then Leopard 10.5.4 for 190, and it work's perfectly fine, lookout for bargains man, they happen, this bad boy retails at 3-4k... just a heads up, if you want to pay retail, go ahead though :)

The latest update of Safar is sloooooooooooooow. Crazy software slow. Started using Firefox again, it was like my ADSL2+ speed was halved.

When using www.isketch.net (which I used to without issue), Shockwave freaks out at the end of each game, throws and error and I have to reload the page.

Have tried right click, options - and the option to update automatically is blanked and unselectable. Any way to get auto updates of Shockwave going?

It seems to take a lot of thinking time to open up a new blank tab. Speed and rendering is quicker though then FF when it gets there.

Really? I havent been having any problems. Fix the keyboard issue?
Yeah just got a basic USB plugin. Even browsing with a single window, no tabs, ADSL2+, Safari just keeps showing white and 'loading' the google.com.au homepage. Crazy speed difference with Firefox.

Any ideas on Shockwave shitting itself at the end of a shockwave application? (isketch game)

Another one - In Safari new tabs/pages would load without starting the videos on the page. Firefox starts playing them automatically. How can I stop Firefox doing this (if at all) and behave like Safari?

New Safari was hell slow with 10.4.11, but I finally got around to going to 10.5.7 .... works well now.

PLEASE HELP!

yesterday i got a new LaCie 320GB portable hardrive from Officeworks for $90, i flicked through the manual before connecting it to my Mac and the warranty is only valid if the device remains non altered and installed properly with the inbuilt software to mirror your hard drive (why i bought it).

anyway i hook it up to the Pro using the power and USB cables and the in-built LaCie installation setup automatically begins and i install the software, just before it finishes "an unexpected error occurred" and the device is disconnected without me having touched a thing.

when i then connected the device again i was asked why it wasnt formatted so i formatted it via 'Disk Utilities' but the device only reads as having 290GB capacity and no inbuilt software initialises?

how can i reset the device to factory settings so i can install the software properly and not void warranty? there's no buttons on the device itself at all.

What exactly does the inbuilt software do? Is it a 3rd party backup program? Whats wrong with just Time Machine?

If you are worried about warranty just go and take it back now. As for 'restoring it' (And losing the inbuilt software/warranty) I would just format it via GParted (burn a live cd) to FAT32 and then go into disk utility and format it to HDFS+

290 out of 320 isn't bad.
I get 465 out of my 500, so it is about normal.

And Id rely on Time Machine not LaCie's back up software.

Just a heads up. I am not sure if this has been discussed already. Recently the middle click on my mighty mouse stopped working, it was still covered by warranty but I wanted to know why it was not working so I decided to pull it apart instead of claiming it. The reason it stopped working is because the cleaning method Apple recommend to clean dust from under the ball actually wears out the latex and the metal contact underneath. I have a <$10 mouse that has seen more use, child abuse and been in operation for many years that I consider a better mouse. I am glad I pulled it apart, seeing that has convinced me never to buy the wireless mighty mouse, now I just need to find a cheap MX revolution.

^ this.

Why would you want to use 3rd party back up software over time machine? If there is a hardware fault it does not matter what software you use or delete, if you just purchased the drive and it is faulty they will have to replace it.

yeah the Device itself appears to be faulty, it drops out unexpectedly on my mac and the home PC. i'll take it back and hopefully i wont have the same problems. i don't have OS X Leopard so i can't use Time Machine.

thanks for all you help.

What cleaned method was this? I heard it should be submersed into pure alcohol and left to aerate?

I may have just killed one of my Macs.

I had a bunch of tube movies (yes they were porn) loaded and minimised. I maximised one, it didn't play properly then stalled the whole computer with the spinning coloured wheel. I tried command option escape and nothing. I gave it like 10 minutes to sort out, nothing happened so I tried to manually reboot.

Now when I start it up all I get is a blank grey page that has a flashing folder with a question mark on it.

Does anyone have ANY ideas short of taking it to the mac shop for salvation?

Sounds like something has stuffed up with your startup disc. If you have the original Macosx CD, it might be a good idea to launch from that and then do a disc utility repair.

I don't actually remember the key that you hold down to boot from the DVD.

EDIT: Quick google... one of these will work:

Restart your computer and immediately press the Option key. Icons for all available startup volumes will appear. Click the one you want to boot from, and then click the right arrow button to complete the startup process.

Restart your computer and immediately press Cmd-Option-Shift-Delete. You must press all the keys at once. The computer will start to boot from the CD or DVD drive. If there isn't a bootable disc inside the drive when you begin the reboot, the computer will attempt to boot from another partition or drive.

Restart your computer and immediately press the c key. The computer will look for a bootable CD or DVD and, if it finds one, will use it as its startup device.
