Trail build times and distance

At this stage it's estimated about 14 km of trail and 2 to 3 months of build time. I can't say too much at this stage but the tender process is in motion.

Masterplan ?

Just a quick question, but is it the ACT government master planning this or is there some professional trail building involvement ?
Would love to see the place used to it's full potential.

Professional trail builder are tendering for the contract. ACT government has proposed a draft layout but it will be up to the builders to design

Yep, a very quick mountain bike related CV

Been a professional planner for 15 year (urban, health and recreational)
Riding mountain bikes in Majura Pines since 1991 (designed and build a lot of the trails in there too)
Did much work (as a volunteer) planning Stromlo Forest Park
Ran three 3 Australian Champs, 3 big 24 hour races, one world cup and one world championship
Ran the consultation for the NSW NPWS mountain bike plan
Ran the consultation and developed the initial (not the 1996 one but the 2010/11 one) Bruce Ridge Plan
Planned and designed the Canberra Centenary Trail
Ran the consultation and developed the Majura Pines Concept Master Plan

I have done work for and with a number of professional trail building companies including Makin Trax, World Trail and the Kowalskis

How the master plan is implemented however is up to the the ACT Government and the Majura Trails Alliance (get involved majurapinestrails(at)gmail.com)

Trail Fairies

If anyone knows the trail fairies currently beavering away in Majura Pines can you please ask them to contact Majura Pines Trails Alliance (MPTA) at majurapinestrails@gmail.com. It's great that the trail fairies have been busy in the Pines and we now have rideable trails again, which is much appreciated. However Parks and Conservation Services (PCS) are in the process of developing an overall trail network plan that will be implemented by a contract trail builder and volunteers co-ordinated by MPTA. It is likely PCS will close any trails that don't fit the plan. So the trail fairies may want to hold off on any more trail building until the plan is finalised. They can then see where their work fits into the plan and work with MPTA to implement the plan.

Majura Pines Trail Alliance update

Quick update from Majura Pines Trail Alliance - the volunteer group coordinating the rebuilding and maintenance of the trails at Majura.

Jindabyne Landscaping have been appointed as the contractor to construct the DH trails and the new beginner area. They start work on 19th January and aim to be finished in April.

Majura Pines Trail Alliance have held two maintenance days to tidy up Boy Wonder, the trail in the next compartment below and the upper trail across the Innabaanya compartment. We are currently planning our 2015 work scope and trail days. More details soon.

We now have a website and a Facebook page:

I was under the impression there was to be a main xc 14k's? loop constructed? As well as the dh trails, Or is that a separate contract going to tender?.

Edit: read the links, are the trail alliance building a new main loop or just reserecting the old trails?.

About the comments by Peanut - only the downhill trails and beginner's area of Majura Pines are within the scope of the work by Jindabyne Landscaping. All other trail building (including the xc trails) is the responsibility of the Majura Pines Trail Alliance volunteer group. Jake has provided a link to the group's website in an earlier post - keep an eye on the links, as they give good up-to-date information on all of the trail building work.

Jindabybe Landscaping have commenced trail construction at Majura Pines. They will be concentrating on the DH trails on the hill at the southern end of the Pines (near the Hackett entrance) and the trails on Winery Hill. Trails and compartments will be closed off where they're working and will be progressively re-opened as they complete each section. Please respect the barriers and stay out of the construction areas.

Boy Wonder will remain open during the construction and much of the forest will remain open to ride throughout. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of March.

Majura build day - 1st Feb

The next volunteer trail building day at Majura Pines will be on Sunday 1st February from 8.30am to 1pm.

We are very fortunate that Craig Stonestreet from Jindabyne Landscaping will be joining us to conduct a trail building clinic throughout the morning as we build. This is an opportunity not to be missed to learn all the tricks of the trade.

Meet at 8.15 at the Mackenzie St gate for a lift in to the forest. If you are riding or walking in, meet at 8.30 at the Jindabyne Landscaping compound on the side fireroad south of the Innabaanya compartment, just north of Lincoln.

Don't forget to bring:
- plenty of water
- hat and sunscreen
- food
- gloves
- sturdy footwear
- eye protection
- your favourite trail tools - rakes, mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc

The next trail day will then be held on Sunday 8th February
