What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Those coaches and scientists you are listening to are talking about Z2 as part of a structured training which probably sets out a 7 days a week program, every week, not a casual 20-30km ride.

If you are only doing 1 ride a week, you will get far more benefit in every way doing a MTB ride on trails with hills than rolling in Z2 on tarmac or gravel.

We ride for fun, so do what makes you happy :)
I have found that commuting to work is great for zone 2 base fitness.

In terms of "training" for big event - yeah you kind of get sick of being on the bike 'cos you have to rather than having fun. That's why unless you like doing base Km's (I like a good gravel ride sometimes rather than a MTB ride) cool go for it. But if you don't enjoy it and your not trying to do a 'challenging' ride just ride what you like. I'd say most of us are time poor so do what you like.

In other news had some parts come today -couple of 1/2 price Purgatory Tyres, some olive and barbs from Aliexpress and most importantly the little park tool hydraulic fitting spanner so I can stop rounding off bloody brake hose nuts.

Some of my Shimano brakes are 7mm.
@DougalStrachan did you get the tool from Ali?
Got this one from Amazon UK as it was cheap - looks to be back to super expensive now tho.

To be honest any flare spanner would be fine - but I was 1 part pissed off with shitty tools (My old 8mm spanner was crappy quality stamped metal job) and 1 part blinded by the park tool aura due to said crappy spanner.

Thanks. BTW, the 7mm I mentioned is for the bleed port.

Been out for early MTB rides last couple of mornings 5:30ish Nothing special nothing new just usual trail runs but nice to be rolling home by 7:30am before the heat really starts. Hell, the cicadas (that ate Fivedock) are bloody noisy this year, and showering me with their praise for getting out early 😂

Agreed. Crack of Dawners in summer is the prime option but you also get stuck with spider patrol much of the time. I do like getting home early and it makes you feel great for the rest of the day. Failing that a late afternoon ride around 5pm on wards also is nice.

Cicadas have leveled up their noise this year here too.

Just avoid 2pm whenever you can !

I doubt you have even gone to bed by that time !

Poods lives the dream that I'm clearly too old to get amongst 🧓

It wasn't the dream this morning. Bed about 3am. Didn't drink enough water before bed to rehydrate off the back of a sweaty shift. Awoke by a clunk about 8am as the house lost power. Struggle for some snooze without my fan. Then phone buzzes...aus grid letting me know I have lost power. Struggle for some snooze hoping to drift off into a sweaty slumber...clunk...power is back on. Buzzzzzz message from aus grid letting me know my power is back on. This cycle went around and around and eventually I just decided fuck it, I'm not going back to sleep.

Beechworth is my new High Country home away from home.

Rode the Beechworth loop. Pipeline is a bit too Gravelburn for me, blink and you miss the singletrack. Although what single track there is was worth it. They did forget to mention the wombat sized holes though.

This intersection looks strangely familiar 🤔.

The run back down was way more interesting, hence zero photos, but suffice to say, it's the first time I've pushed Evie's suspension to it's limits.

Then wrapped it up with a little tour of the town.
