COVID-19: who’s going full doomsday prep on this?

Got an email from our office this morning. Work is still on, but they are looking for something to use as hand sanitiser. Wife's place of work bought isopropyl and aloe vera gel a couple of weeks ago to make their own. I suggested picking some up on eBay, but then had a look at what it's currently going for

First in best dressed, if you listen to @Oddjob
Actually I'm suggesting we should do the exact opposite through triage. Then the icu beds go to those with the best chances of survival regardless of if/when they catch the virus.

First in best dressed is the rational game theory choice without triage.

Chatting to a mate that is a Dr in ER, that's what they'll do. They already had their game plan in place for how to prioritise patients 3 weeks ago, even tho WA only had a couple of confirmed cases at that point.

My parents and in-laws are stuffed if they get overwhelmed, they won't get a look in.

Now that gyms are to be shut she is trying to panic buy a squat rack.
been pricing them up after getting the ok from the wife. 180kg weight package that was 568 yesterday is now 640. suddenly 1K for a basic setup is headed towards 1500, 1200 half rack package now 1500. the way things are now they can name their price

It's a friend-of-a-friend story, but bear with me.

Friend of ours is a ex-UK citizen, she's hearing stories of elderly patients being ushered off and made comfortable. And there's something like 1 respirator for every 8 patients.

It was enough for her to isolate her deeply autistic son for the duration

Had an interaction with a large gaggle of 10 old sea hags huddled closely around a table this morning. I ducked down to local café for a final hot choc. It’s a small country town with few parks, and I admittedly a bit cheekily, parked in a loading zone. One old bitty stood up, waved her finger and pointing at the sign, saying ‘LOADING ZONE! LOADING ZONE!. I calmly pointed out that I was driving a registered goods carrying ‘G’ registered vehicle, and was allowed to park in a loading zone for 15 minutes. She said ‘You’re just buying a coffee!’. I looked her in the eye like a boss for a few seconds, then eyes off the large group huddled around a small table, and asked her if she’d heard of ‘social distancing’?
She glared at me and said “How about you mind your own business!’

It was eerily quiet around my area (Melbourne Western 'burbs) yesterday. Hoarders must've finally run out of freezer capacity, so the small local supermarket actually had a reasonable amount of food and supplies on the shelf for the first time in 2+ weeks, there was about half the people in the shops compared to what there would've been on a normal pre-COVID-19 day, and almost no traffic on the roads (I'd estimate about 1/8th of usual). I went for a ride round the creek path and saw a handful more people than usual, but otherwise it was like a ghost town. Personally I love the peace and quiet, but it did feel weird - especially without the traffic.

One of the reasons I like to shop late at night
As do I. I was gutted when I went over about 8:30pm last night, only to discover the doors shut with a notice they are now closing from 8pm. Time to mingle with more of the public now I guess.

if someone ends up in ICU they need a ventilator, if its a choice between old sick person with underlying problems, diabetes, heart etc, vs younger person the younger person will get the ICU spot, the older will be sent home - or palliative care in hospital. That's why so many are dying in Italy. And that's the policy at a major hospital in Melbourne.

and I've always been trying to avoid indoor dreadmill type training, you know the hampster wheel, but this is now becoming a possibility, could be worse of course. its all about keeping a strong immune system, plenty of veg, fruit, don't run yourselves down with Alcohol and stress peeps.

With all this survivor selection talk, am I the only person noticing the lack of reference to obesity? Is it too sensitive in a country with such a high rate of obesity as ours? Surely a few references to this issue may have triggered a spurt of panic dieting and panic exercising? Based on similar behabiour with panic buying...

I go through phases of treadmill running, th first couple of weeks suck but you quickly get to the point that you can do 10km runs and then build pace. at lest these days a laptop and a streaming service is easy to setup. one episode of Dr who is a decent run. or intervals - walk 1/3 a lap, double the pace for the rest. just those first few runs suck
