Would anyone care to speculate with me how next year is going to work with the incorporation of the World 24hr championship?
Are we going to mix the worlds best with beginners?
Will there be two different courses? How will it work?
Nup, that meeting is yet to happen... :)

Agree with most of your post, and even this last paragraph for a standard 24 hour, but without wanting to change this into the World Solo 24 Hour thread, next year the focus should be the soloists racing for a world title and there wont be any 24 hour first-timers in that field.
Well no, but by the same token the solos do openly say they like being on a track with the teams because of the social side. So yeah, as I said a post or three ago, that meeting is yet to happen. I've spoken to a few solo nutter friends to gauge what they feel and it's pretty varied...

(rego, transponder attachment), we had power drop out- we use battery backed power supplies (UPS) to protect from power outages- but our UPS also failed (even UPS' fail) and outages on our 3rd party web host (an established host with 24x7 support, but was still out for over 4 hours when we didn't need to spend over an hour on the phone), and there were some others.
Thanks for update mark, appreciate the candour.

As an aside, having stuff is one thing. A plan along with an actual DR test is critical. Often plans gather dust and have no relevance to recovery procedure or similar. In my exp. UPS's fail when they are not working to start with (dodgy software, faulty batteries, etc) :-( The only way to find this out is through testing and during a test. I would be very surprised if this was actually tested. With an event of this magnitude, one would think a test is mandatory once things are setup and a set procedure followed for various degrees, stages of failure. Easier in hindsight of course. Same for backups (part of recovery test), disseminating the information. Improvements are required. In this day and age, having to go to a tent to check (what was often wrong, outdated results) is well... :D

ok, crawling back into my hole

...but how cool is the vibe when it's just solo guys out there? Ala the solo nats. 400+ soloists on a suitable course will be pretty social :)

Cheers

Solo Nats

Has been the best race I have been too in the last two years really dont miss the guys in teams at that one.

I will do the Easter solo only if the family permits again next year even if it isnt the nationals.

Well, are they really saying "with the teams" or are they saying "with other riders" ?

Agree. I'm sure they will find something to talk about over the course of a day.

I also think we owe it to the world's riders to provide as fair a race as possible, and team riders mixed in with the solos can provide the opportunity for both help and hindrance.

Not to mention how awesome both the male and female racing was... pity it was such a small event in comparison

You are right Russ, solo riders enjoy other riders on course, especially in the dark hours, but they don't have to come specifically from teams. Easter 24 is magic with solo riders, 399 others to shoot the breeze with will be fantastic.

I suspect they might be a bit under the pump!

Same. We wait with baited breath. Some of those blurred night shots are quality - potential for new profile pics, methinks. :)

Did anyone else have problems with their results? It would appear I got ripped off 1 lap. I definitely did 15 in solo 40+ but i am only listed as having done 14. I did lose the timing chip at one stage so I'm guessing this is where the error occured?
LeMatelot an SteppenW I have sent an email to Casetech as suggested so I guess I'll see what happens.

As I've been relaxin on the beach for the last week and detached from the real world, thought I'd finally share my thoughts on the race from a first time solo man. Gotta say I'm glad to have finally gotten it out of my system as I've been talking about it for about 3 years, (the broken neck last november didn't speed the process up) so if anyone out there is contemplating going solo for 24hrs, go for it.
Really enjoyed the support from other riders on track especially the team riders who took the opportunity to have a little breather behind me and have a chat for five minutes before taking off again.
Thought the track was great, yeh it was tough, especially at night when you could see the lights at the top of the mountain and your down the bottom. My arms were pumped hard after those descents after I finished but I loved every one of 'em.
Finally I qualified for the world champs next year so I don't care what the format is, I'm there, can't wait!!

And one last thing, Red Racer gotta thank Mrs Racer for the article in Enduro mag it turned Mrs Jackstack into a nutrition specialist over nite
and she had the food bit going spot on up until second last lap when she let me choose what I was going to eat and then did 1.5 laps with
shocking reflux, we've decided next time she's the boss for the whole 24hrs.

my addled mind kept going. "Hey, there is a roo, and it is on a bike, and it is wearing clothes, wtf???"

Way to mess with my head :D

just wondering,
what were the fastest day and night laps other than the prologue on the shortened course??
Haven't seen anything "official" in terms of these sort of results, but JD26 put up some info in posts 775 to 777 in this thread, and also there is a bit more in post 803.

Remember, if you're looking at lap times, that Lap 1 of the race was also a slightly shorter course too - not just the prologue
